At the end of the discussion, one student inappropriately said “white power,” two or three times.

So "one student" either has racist parents or is hanging out with the wrong kind of people. Immigration issues have nothing to do with "race."

I confused as to why a Spanish-language class is holding discussions of immigration (presumably in English). How does that advance the students' knowledge of the Spanish language?

This kind of foolishness is one reason I don't send my children to Catholic schools. They're almost as full of p.c. caca as public schools, and they cost a LOT more and are farther away.

People are sure funny. I don’t remember whites getting very upset in the 60s and 70s and yelling racist when the Blacks were marching around yelling “Black Power” and wearing their t-shirts with a black fist raised that said black power. Why is it wrong for white kids to stick up for their race?

So a few students chant “white power” in a school room somewhere in the US. Can I assume that if other students were to chant “La Raza” or Black Power in another classroom it would get the same coverage?

It appears to me the students may have had a legitimate grievance, if learning another language is mandatory.

"The classroom discussion started with the question: Why do students need to learn Spanish?"

Why indeed Spanish, why not German, French Greek or even Hebrew -- no, only Spanish.

What is wrong here, since when do American children need to learn Spanish? How about Hispanic children learning English if their illegal alien parents are going to continue to send them to our taxpayer funded schools (even private ones?)

My 5-year-old is learning Greek. (The one from outer space ...)

I’m planning to start the rest of the children learning Spanish as soon as I can get my mother to buy us the computer program. It’s a useful language (which I more-or-less speak), irrespective of immigration issues.

Liberals are causing this.

They actually believe they can methodically re-structure US society on mountain upon mountain of hypocrisy and double-standards, and that the American public is going to go along with their schemes.

Kids are the most talented observers in the world. They’ll spot hypocrisy a mile away.

To have an organization literally named “THE RACE” as the national representative of Latinos (and frankly the fact Latinos, and every ethnic group indeed have representative groups) LEADS TO THIS SORT OF THINKING.

The longer groups on the left act racist, the more they devalue the entire concept of “racism”.

Eventually they will have desensitized enough young people, those young people will start trotting around with swastikas again. And attempts to explain why that’s wrong, will be met with very simple challenges. Such as: SO IS THAT OTHER THING.

Liberals will cause that. And they’re too arrogant and blind, to see it.

One kid. And the left will use this to “prove” all white people are racist.

Well, it’s too bad, but as long as Hispanics are treated as a “favored race” by the media, liberals, and other social engineers, this sort of retribution is going to continue.

Well, a chant of “white power” should be no more incendiary than “black power”.

I wonder what “inappropriate rhetoric” was discussed? Did the inappropriate language involve the illegality of illegals - it’s so unnecessary saying that - or that English is spoken in America, etc?

Why do students need to learn Spanish?

To get an A, of course, and to get into college. You need to pass two years of a foreign language, and Spanish is easy compared to the other choices.

The USA cannot maintain the current level of immigration coming from the third world. At least not without a significant decrease in the quality of life for the average person.

I would’ve prefered to learn Greek in high school. It would make for great conversation with Muslim students.

How about having to know Spanish to get a particular job. That happened to me. I met all of the requirements except the last one posted in the want ad. “Must speak Spanish”. It was a mftg. lead postition, for an American company.

“It became a heated discussion and some rhetoric was used that was inappropriate for the classroom,” said Jeanette DeMelo, spokesperson for the Archdiocese of Denver.

"some rhetoric"? So what was it. Or as usual will we only hear about the evil white people and not what else was said in the heated discussion? Not to mention how LaRaza has been making this about race from day one.

“It happened Tuesday in a classroom at Holy Family High School, the Catholic school that sits at the corner of 144th Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard in Broomfield. “

“The classroom discussion started with the question: Why do students need to learn Spanish? “

I don’t blame them for questioning SPANISH.

Does the school want to equip their students for

“the jobs Americans won’t do”?

Can’t have it both ways.

ENGLISH is the language of business. Mandarin, Hindi are powerhouse countries - learn that.
