Washington, D.C. - "The storm over Sen. Larry Craig's (R-Idaho) guilty plea for 'disorderly conduct' in a men's restroom shows that sexual morality matters," stated Wendy Wright, President of Concerned Women for America. "This unpleasant incident highlights the vast problem of sexual deviancy and that Americans have the right to expect moral sexual behavior from others, including U.S. senators.
"In light of the accusations against him, Sen. Craig has been criticized for voting to protect Americans from being forced to accept abnormal sexual behaviors. The furor over the accusations against him reveals that Americans do not accept sexual deviancies, so our laws should not force us to accommodate others' immoral sexual behavior.
"Sen. Craig voted to uphold marriage as between one man and one woman, to protect businesses that have employment standards against immoral sexual behavior or gender confusion, and to not give special preference to homosexuals over other victims in criminal cases. Critics assume that since Sen. Craig is accused of seeking homosexual anonymous public sex, he is somehow obligated to vote in favor of same-sex 'marriage'. Anonymous public sex is not marriage. Senators - regardless of their own actions - have a responsibility to protect marriage from being redefined. Those criticizing his votes are also those seeking to change our laws to force Americans to embrace virtually any form of sexual behavior.
"Businesses should have the same ability to expect high moral standards from their employees that are applied to Sen. Craig. Yet, next week, a congressional committee will debate whether businesses should be forced to accept an employee's sexual conduct. The Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) would forbid businesses from discriminating against an employee based on "sexual orientation" or "gender identity". If ENDA passes, it would be illegal for a business to do what many voters are likely to do - not 'employ' Sen. Craig based on accusations of his sexual behavior.
"Americans have the right to expect sexually moral behavior from others, especially from those passing laws over us. One thing we can learn from the accusations against Sen. Craig is that Americans should be allowed to uphold sexual moral standards in the law, employment practices, public venues and society."

Is something of a double standard isn’t it? In truth, Barney Fag had a “lover” that was running a prostitution ring - but he is still in office.
It is my opinion that any “practicing” (in other words sexually active) homosexual should not be placed in any postion of public trust. That means “practicing” homosexuals should be ineligible for public office, government employment, military service, etc. Of course, this can never happen today...too many clocks to turn back. Also, we would have to apply the same standard to adulterer’s also....which might put half of congress out of work (I hope this is an extreme exageration). Plus, it would actually cause half of the military to have to hang up their uniforms.
The state of common morality is getting to be rock bottom.
Interestingly, the article fails to mention Sen. David Vitter of Louisiana who was a client of the DC Madam.
Unless of course your Bill Clinton, Ted Kennedy, Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, or anything with a (D) next to it!
Prostitution laws will probably be overturned by judges in the future. As we have seen lawsuits about same-sex marriage, and movements to make sexual identity, gender expression , etc. a civil right, this could be next.
If we end up with same-sex marriage, civil rights protection for any sexual expression, it will be difficult, legally speaking, to uphold laws against prostitution. The concept of consenting adults doing whatever they want will trump any other concerns.
If Senator Craig had come out (no pun intended) and said, "yes, I do these things" and hadn't tried to obtain those things in an illegal way...then he wouldn't have been blackmailable. Nobody can blackmail Barney Frank with such accusations as long as he isn't cruising public restrooms (and wasn't convicted in the prostitution ring case).
But as long as a senator lives a double-life, he risks the nation's security. That is one reason it matters a great deal.
It doesn't justify a double standard, but it does justify the reaction in this case.
if so then how come the dems not only get away with it but in fact frank urged craig to serve out his term and I doubt it will hurt him
Yikes! I can’t believe I wrote “American’s” instead of Americans! It is one of my pet peeves when people use the possession for the plural!
The only thing this proves is that morality (sexual or otherwise) still matters to SOME republicans and does not matter one whit to demoncrats.

I think your analysis is correct, and it scares me spitless. Eventually, the only laws that might “restrict” prostitution would be health code violations. So, the entire country may someday have licensed prostitutes like in Nevada. The libertarians (I call them libertines) must really be gloating over this.
