Chinese military hacked into Pentagon

The Chinese military hacked into a Pentagon computer network in June in the most successful cyber attack on the US defence department, say American officials.
The Pentagon acknowledged shutting down part of a computer system serving the office of Robert Gates, defence secretary, but declined to say who it believed was behind the attack.
Current and former officials have told the Financial Times an internal investigation has revealed that the incursion came from the Peoples Liberation Army.
One senior US official said the Pentagon had pinpointed the exact origins of the attack. Another person familiar with the event said there was a very high level of confidence...trending towards total certainty that the PLA was responsible. The defence ministry in Beijing declined to comment on Monday.

Another reason NOT to let china buy up all of our technology/computer companies. They want to sell them to you, start making them out of crappier designs and quality, and then after you have them they want to hack into them.

While the Chinese are poisening our children with lead-contaminated toys, our pets with pesticide-laden kibble, our vehicles with dangerous tires, and our health with anti-freeze infested toothpaste, they are now hacking into our defense networks. Where is the outrage from our elected officials? Oh, remember that they own about $1 trillion in US treasuries that they will cash in at once to cripple our economy. Wake up America.

Once again, the Chinese show their hand.
Why do we keep tolerating this?
Duncan Hunter’s been right about China for years: “While we trade with China, they prepare for war.”
We should treat them like the Communists they are.

If China wanted to play rough with our economy, then the rules of the game change, and the US role as Mr. Nice Guy would end. The commies would be slitting their own throats. It might be rough for us, but it will be a catastrophe for them, and they will not find many friends in the world to back them up.

Move along folks, nothing to see here. Everything’s under control, don’t worry about a thing.
In five years’ time, the Red Chinese won’t have to hack into the Pentagon’s data bank, they will be given the passwords and be coming over here on consultation calls to do checkups on the systems and provide the necessary upgrades.
Always happy to help out their best friends, doncha know.
Or maybe Herself, the Cold and Joyless, might NOT be coronated - er - elected to the post of Viceroy of all the Americas for the Greater Hegemony of East Asia.
In any event, we probably won’t have to worry so much about the Islamic jihadists by then.

Interesting,,,I used 2006 McAfee,on my old PC,that would do the same thing,,,(show where the hacker is)
Many came from China,,,All Gubmints/hackers
do the same thing,,,they send out a “ping” over the net and
try to enter the “ports” in our systems,,,10-20 times per
min. from all over the world,,,when they targeted my IP I
would get an “Attempted Port Entry” signal,,,

I have long advocated (with little success) for a NORAD like warning / alert system for the Internet. The technology is available to monitor all Internet connections that enter our boarders for activity that matches the profiles of know attack and intelligence gathering traffic.

Unfortunately, their globalist brains are hung up on a One World Government - and they will try to get it, no matter what it takes. The handwriting has been on the wall for 50 years, but people have been so busy being entertained by the idiot box that no one has noticed. Let’s hope they are waking up, and that it is not too late!

Their jobs aren't more important than our national security. The cry for help was a good thing. Maybe they should break from "affirmative action" contractors and hire some real consultants.

"Get the source IP and NMap them back."
Even simple portsentry will stop such scans. The invasion and occupation of the first router would have to proceed from a single signal, which can be done. Then to the next router and so on (most likely staggered IP routes to get in).

??legerdemain??
It's a French phrase, normallly
leger de main. But these newer built-in dictionaries all seem to think it is now a common enough phrase to make it
legerdemain or
legerdemains.
I just looked and those radicals at Merriam-Webster don't even recognize
leger de main as a proper spelling.

You're right, a proper defense is layered, but, you gotta start somewhere. And NMap can be fairly stealthy. And information gleaned, even non information, can be useful. Sides, there's other tools in the chest. NMap is but one.
And while I'm sure the DoD, DIA, NSA, and all the other TLA's, have their info wariors, why can't we? An American civilian net defense force?
We could sure give the ChiComs a few sleepless nights in cyberspace. If we were so inclined mind you. :-)

Since the criminal presidents' the clintoons' china has lost their flow of information...so they've had to revert to computer hacking.
It's hard to believe anyone can get into this part of the pentagon computer system. These computers must be compartmentalize...outsiders having no way to enter this system.

This is pretty good and easy for most common broadband users to install in an old box. It can put heavy bandwidth through and uses very little wattage (with only a heatsink on the CPU, a slow fan on the power supply and configured to shut the drive down after boot).

More layers are advisable for home nets, though, and I prefer Generalissimo De Raadt’s Packet Filter for firewalls.
