Ice blocks British solo sailor (Global Warming Trip Ruined By Ice)
Herald Sun ^ | September 4, 2007

Posted on 09/04/2007 3:28:23 AM PDT by PJ-Comix

A BRITISH yachtsman attempting the first solo Arctic sea passage across northern Russia was examining his options after heavier than expected ice blocked his route, his manager said.

Adrian Flanagan is discussing with Russian authorities the possibility of using a nuclear-powered icebreaker to lift his boat out of the water and carry it round the most icebound stretch of Russia's Northern Sea Route.

She described the yachtsman's mood as “pretty fed-up”.

Yeah, its a terrible thing when you find out that despite all the reports of global warming, ice is still going to block your arctic voyage. Better sue algore for ruining your trip.

Yeah. This moron actually bought into the Global Warming ideology so much that he actually believed that ice conditions in the arctic north of Siberia would be light enough for him to circumnavigate the arctic. I don’t think he even investigated the conditions first. He just believed the bull that algore was peddling about Global Warming and that was enough for him. Now he is trapped by the ice and his own stupidity. I wonder if he will lose his yacht?

He had hoped that his 11m reinforced yacht would be able to get all the way to Europe due to lighter ice conditions observed in recent years, thought to be a result of global warming.

The Russians, who are sitting on the only available supply of Carbon Credits, should a cap-and-trade approach to CO2 control come about, have nooooooo reason to lie about global warming... Right? The fact that any realistic plan to control global CO2 production would basically grant them a license to print hard currency would not play into their thinking on this matter at all.

You know, it’s a shame that reality never stopped any social engineers from pursuing their fantasies with our tax dollars.

Isn’t there some way to turn social engineers into ice-locked bear-scat?

Who has a motivation to lie about Global Warming?

Algore - Obviously. It is his ticket out of political obscurity

Russia - They stand to make Hundreds of Billions of Dollars by selling unused carbon credits

China - They can eliminate competition by the Industrialized West

India - They can reduce the cost of their own energy imports by stifling international demand

Europe - They will be slitting their own throats, but they will be able to do so with a smug sense of superiority, which is all that matters to the Europeans.

Canada - The Canadians are not lying. They actually believe this stuff.

South America - South and Central America cannot make themselves richer, but they can make the US poorer, which is the next best thing

Africa - Africa can blame all of their problems on Global Warming, instead of on their own incompetence and corruption. Global Warming is the latest excuse, following slavery, colonialism, capitalism, cultural imperialism and communism.

The Global Warming movement has global support because it has been carefully constructed to give every nation, except the United States, a reason to pretend that Global Warming is real. Given the motivations, only the thinnest veneer of crediblity is required to get these nations to sign off on doing what they have wanted to do all along.

That is EXACTLY what he is now worried about. Read this ARTICLE titled, "As Adrian Flanagan waits for the ice to clear he's been told to keep a careful watch for polar bears."

I guess those pics global warming alarmists use from that one year when the arctic ocean had a large ice free passage, and have used constantly every year since can be a real bummer to idiots attempting pointless and stupid things.

They should make these fools pay for the rescue expenses when they get in trouble. The bill for a Russian nuclear powered ice breaker ought to sober the guy up.

"Canada - The Canadians are not lying. They actually believe this stuff."

Not only do they believe it, they think they can stop it by reduced their c02 output, even though they only contribute less than one percent of the industrialized worlds total c02 output with all their lights turned on at once and factories running full bore. The cold air must really slow their brain wave activity

I like this part of the article you linked...

His plan had been to pass through the straits of Vil’kitskogo by 15 August, but unlike recent summers this year the ice has not yet cleared. His worry is that if the ice does not do so soon, he will be forced to abandon his attempt to become the first person ever to circumnavigate the Earth via the polar regions, solo. There is hope that he might be able to join an ice-breaker convoy if and when the ice thins sufficiently. But Adrian’s latest news is that the ice is impenetrable, even with the assistance of a nuclear powered ice-breaker. A further impediment is that these convoys typically travel at 8-10 knots, which is too fast for Adrian’s yacht Barrabas to keep pace.

Not exactly a rocket scientist either...

He became somewhat confused after receiving weather condition reports from the Russian Marine Operations HQ which constantly seemed to refer to light and moderate winds while he was experiencing winds in excess of 30 knots. In the end he realised that he was being given wind speeds in metres per second rather than knots.

THE BALLAD OF FLANAGAN'S ICE
Tune: "The Ballad of Gilligan's Isle"

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale
A tale of a stupid schmuck
Who thought he'd sail through Arctic seas
Without his getting stuck

His name is Wrong Way Flanagan
A name that Nature dealt
He bought the global warming crap
And bet the ice would melt
And bet the ice would melt

The weather started getting cold
The ice began to form
And soon Wrong Way began to see
The globe is not that warm
The globe is not that warm

It's been an Inconvenient Tour
And Wrong Way's paid the price
His yacht is stuck in dire straits
Conditions, not so nice
The polar bears are hungry too
Here on Flanagan's Ice!

I’ve heard that Africa has bigger problems then Global Warming(TM) and they laugh at the fools who were their for the Live Earth concert and that all these things to stop Global Warming(TM) would actually hurt Africa if implemented.

As to these unused carbon credits Russia has, I still can’t figure out what they are. It seems like carbon credits are nothing so Russia has hundreds of billions of dollars in unused nothing to sell?

Really, for some years, I’ve seen the Global Warming(TM) hysteria as a way for neo-feudalists to seize back control of the land and make us all their serfs by scaring people into giving up their land rights. Or, where people can’t be scared, just eventually take them with the blessing of the duped.

"As Adrian Flanagan waits for the ice to clear he's been told to keep a careful watch for polar bears."

It's going to get mighty scary out there on that 35 ft boat when the polar bears discover him. He's much easier to catch than a walrus, and much less dangerous. Why would the cash-strapped Russians spend the money and effort to run their nuclear ice breaker out to rescue a fool who was warned of the dangers?

I doubt whatever locks or doors he has available will keep either one or several hungry polar bears from ripping his boat to pieces to get at the tasty, warm morsel inside. It might be a nightmare ending for this guy.

The Kyoto Treaty calls for industrialized nations, including Russia, to cut CO2 emissions reletive to a 1990 baseline. Since in 1990, the Soviet Union was still in business, Soviet CO2 emissions were much higher than Russian emissions are today. Therefore, Russia has the right, under Kyoto, to emit much more CO2 than they currently are.

Therefore, if Kyoto ever goes into general effect, Russia will be sitting on the only available rights to produce excess CO2, which they will be able to sell to other industrialized nations for a king's ransom if Cap and Trade goes into effect.

If Kyoto fails, they have no value, whatsoever. That is why Russia is strongly in favor of Kyoto. It will give them a license to trade nothing for hard currency, which sounds like a pretty good deal for them, doesn't it?

My initial point was that the Kyoto deal gives everybody something that they wanted all along, and allows them to take it, all the while pretending to be motivated by some high-and-mighty purpose. If Global Warming turns out to be a complete sham, it doesn't matter, because everybody has gotten what they want out of the deal.

Except the United States. The US is screwed. But that's part of the deal, too.
