Hunter Ready for His Second NH Debate
NHpols.com ^ | 9/4/07 | Roy Tyler

Manchester. NH September 4, 2007…Presidential candidate Duncan Hunter, showing renewed strength in the race for the GOP nomination, is poised for his second New Hampshire debate on Wednesday.

He arrived in the state on Tuesday, fresh from an appearance at a “Fight for Victory” pro-troop rally in Carson City, Nev. Hunter is a ranking member of the House Armed Services Committee, and he served with the 173rd Airborne and 75th Army Rangers in Vietnam. His son, a Marine captain, is serving his third tour in the Middle East.

Over the weekend, the California congressman took top honors in the first Republican Party straw poll in Texas harvesting over 41% of the votes. Former Senator Fred Thompson, took second taking nearly 21 percent of the vote. Texas Congressman Ron Paul was third with about 17 percent of the vote.

The New Hampshire Republican Party and Fox News Channel have set up Wednesday‘s debate The 90-minute event is scheduled to start at 9 p.m., and it will be held in the Whittemore Center at the University of New Hampshire’s Durham campus.

All of the declared GOP candidates are scheduled to appear, and the event will be telecast live on the Fox News Channel and Fox News Radio.

Hunter, in his first televised New Hampshire debate in June, touched on all of the major issues facing American families. The debate was carried by CNN.

He said progress will be made in the Iraqi war when all 129 battalions of Iraqis join the fight. “Let’s get the Iraqis into the fight, give them some experience and then turn the patrolling over to them.”

Hunter contends once reliability is established in the Iraqi military, they will be capable of rotating into the battlefield throughout Iraq, displacing U.S. combat forces, “that’s how we leave Iraq, which will amount to an unprecedented success in the most difficult region of the new era.”

Hunter was questioned by audience members who had lost relatives in the war. He told them, “I thank you for your tremendous sacrifice. This country owes you a great debt of gratitude. My son, Duncan D., has served two tours in Iraq, and is in Afghanistan now serving his third tour. I have a sense of the experiences of a military family.”

Hunter was the “go-to-man” on the issue of immigration. Wolf Blitzer, the CNN moderator, kept redirecting the discussion to Hunter, mainly because Hunter has led the way for tight border security and for extraditing illegal immigrants.

Hunter reminded the national audience that he drafted legislation that was signed into law by the President which mandates the construction of 854 miles of double fencing across the smugglers routes of Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. Hunter noted that the Department of Homeland Security has the money and the mandate, but “the administration has a ‘case of the slows’ in getting the fence built.” He pledged that he would see that the fence is constructed within six month after his election as president.

I like Duncan Hunter, but the best he can do is Defense Secretary.

American Research Group (August 30, 2007)
New Hampshire
Romney 27%
Giuliani 23%
McCain 12%
Huckabee 9%
Thompson 8%
Paul 3%
Brownback 1%
Tancredo 0%
...Hunter 0%

Because conservatives are not going to select a moderate this time out. Hunter cleaned up in the Texas straw poll over the weekend. Hunter is the most conservative man in the race. And Hunter is not dropping out. He is in it to win.

You can read up on him here:

Their messages are great, I agree with both of them 100%. They GET it. The thing is though, and in some ways unfortunately so, that Presidential electability also requires Charisma, a high up political office, and the ability to fund raise. Besides Message, Hunter and Tancredo lack these traits, and that is why they can’t gain steam.

They withdrew because, unlike Iowa, only delegates got to vote. They knew it wouldn’t look good if they were unable to spend 3 million buying votes like they did in Iowa.

Hunter also won the AZ straw poll, tied in Spartanburg, SC, came in 2nd in CA and won the Arkansas Republican assemblies poll w/o bribes.

The popularity MSM polls have Rudy still winning. Brownback has a better chance of winning the nomination than Rudy does, so what good are they at this point?

I would love to have this guy as President. Unfortunately, right now the numbers do not support that. HOWEVER, A Thompson - Hunter ticket is looking like a very good bid for the Presidency. Their combined poll numbers are outstanding. After a couple of terms as VP Mr. Hunter could take the top slot with no problem.

"Brownback has a better chance of winning the nomination than Rudy does"

No. For voters that Abortion is not an issue, or that are Pro-Abortion, for which there are many in the North and Northeast United States, Rudy Giuliani is a serious contender in their minds. And though many of those states are blue, they still get Convention Delgates and Primaries. Brownback is toast. At this point honestly, I think he is running only ahead of Tancredo and Hunter. (And may have less of a chance of getting the nomination than both of them)

If Duncan Hunter were Governor of California instead of 1/435 Congressscritters, he would be the run-away front runner.

Giuliani is only a serious contender in the polls right now. He’s a frickin liberal and has no chance to win the GOP nomination. Abortion certainly is important, and it is why Rudy tried so hard to come across as ‘pro-life’ in his early campaign (he failed).

So is illegal immigration
military experience
the 2nd amendment
fighting the gay agenda
the constitution

Rudy sucks wind on all of these and more. Sorry.

I am also concerned that we are going down that same trail that got Arnold elected.

Well, Hunter’s got plenty of time! To hear the Fredheads tell it, its still very early in the campaign season.

“A Thompson - Hunter ticket is looking like a very good bid for the Presidency.”

Aside from the fact that these two candidates are like night and day, not suitable for the same ticket, BOTH have said they will NOT accept a VP position. Aside from the differences in illegal immigration/amnesty, NAFTA, CHINA, etc., we MUST consider the WOT. Duncan Hunter has military experience, Fred Thompson has zero.

Duncan Hunter has military experience, Fred Thompson has zero.

Which is exactly why I say...

THOMPSON-HUNTER 2008
Let Fred win the election.
Let Duncan win the wars.

But the simple fact is we have GOT to have the numbers or the only thing we will get is the Hillary brand of communism.

DH and FDT on the same ticket is as far fetched as RP or RG and FDT on the same ticket. FDT is much better suited with McCain.

This thread, among many other threads, is fighting over who should be the best ‘08 GOP Presidential candidate when the entire U.S. is in a much more serious situation where full socialism could take it over, starting in January ‘09! If the Democrats truly end up winning everything important on November 4, 2008, then both the Republican Party at every level and conservatism at every level will eventually die off throughout the U.S.! Democratic legislation that’s signed by a Democratic President would allow amnesty for illegal immigrants to occur “to the max” while also allowing illegal immigrants to register to vote throughout the U.S. for always! These new “illegal immigrant U.S. voters” will vote overwhelmingly for “far leftist” politicians at every political level, and with endless waves of illegal immigrants continuously coming to the U.S. and many of them also registering to vote while here, both Republicans and conservatives won’t be able to match such numbers for their side=the death of both the Republican Party and conservatism. The ‘08 elections couldn’t be more important to the long-term future of the entire country!

The issue of illegal immigration is but one reason to vote for Hunter. The rest of the GOP candidates are pushing some form of amnesty, with lip service to securing the border. Another reason: we need to elect a man who will cause the beligernet chicoms, Iranians and Hugo chavez to soil themselves. Hunter is the only choice.

What’s the next move if socialism does take over the entire U.S.? What’s the conservatives next move if socialism takes over and illegal immigrants are allowed to vote in the U.S. forever? How is “U.S. conservatism” supposed to successfully survive in such an environment? Where are the political messages by the Republican Presidential candidates that say these things will happen if the Democrats win everything in ‘08?

Harsh reality... Duncan does not have the numbers.
