Not surprised. I own one, and it is the coolest cell phone I’ve ever used. Apple are the kings of interface, and they’ve made the cumbersome UI’s of Blackberry and other cell phone makers seem like 1970’s technology.

There’s a lot of complaints with AT&T being incredibly slow. And that’s the only service you can have without hacking into the iphone.

This is kind of a “duh” topic. The brand new product would be expected to outsell its mature rivals when it is first released, especially considering Apple’s marketing blitzkrieg. A more appropriate comparison might be with the first full month’s sales of the Blackberry, or the Treo, or any other competing product.

That said, this is probably the first smartphone that appeals to the teenybopper set, so the kids who could afford it may push it over the top anyway, even without corporate interest.

Thsi story is somewhat misleading IMO. Sure, the fact that iPhone sold more than the other brands is interesting, but this is the first month. It’s new. Everyone that wanted one of the other phones has had months if not a year or more to purchase them. I say, give it six months. If in the seventh month the iPhone is still outselling all other brands, it will mean something. Right now, I don’t think it does.

For such an insignificant company, you sure have a lot of anger. Did Steve Jobs beat you up and take your girl?

nope, no anger...

i have my cell phone, and i have used palm type wireless that connected to whatever wireless was available, had mp3 ability, internet, mail, win media player for vids, expansion capabilities...

and it got it off ebay for less than a hundred dollars...

hype versus performance...

i got what i needed without having to overpay and rely on att and the snails pace connectivity...and hey, i still use my verizon cellphone....

This goes contrary to what I've been hearing.

Slow internet and the at&t bills are outrageous.

I saw a gal on the nooze that got her bill in a box...300 pages long!

I had the chance to use an iPhone last week, and it was the best cell phone/pda I have ever used. And the response for internet and email was very fast. Don’t know about AT&T customer service, but the phone is fast and COOL!!

yours seems to be the exception to the rule...although i recall news reports showing good connection speeds, but again, only on att, if you not near a hotspot for them, forget it..

my palm device was open to whatever was/is available, makes more sense to spend less for a more available wireless, plus basically all the features you have on the iphone...i just use a normal verizon cell phone, small, compact, sticks in my pocket when i need it...

all for less than most iphone users are ever, ever, going to pay for their service, im sure.

I have AT&T service by default, as I was a Cingular subscriber before it was purchased by AT&T. I have the Cingular 8525 phone. It’s a great phone.

It is a PDA. It’s a phone. It’s a 2MP still camera. It is a video camera. It allows me to link into my home or business eMail through Microsoft Access mobile. It allows me to use texting. There is a G3 connection that allows internet access. If I wish I can also connect to my router wirelessly. I can browse the internet, and do FRequent FR on the device. It’s an amazing phone.

While it may not have all the bells and whistles of the iPhone device, it does provide nearly all if not all the functions. So I do think it is comparitive.

I mention this, because my bill is about five pages in length. I’d be surprised if everyone is getting those massive bills. Some may be, but I’d wager it would be corrected right away.

I have chosen not to replace my current phone, because it has cutdown versions of Microsft Office utilities. I use those extensively. The iPhone doesn’t have them, and that rules it out as far as my needs go.

The provider is always the weakest link.

And they’re all weak in my experience.

First month sales, yada, yada, yada

All that matters is last month's sales.

No one phone company has enough towers that it dosen’t have holes. I install BB using two service providers for the company I service because with so many people working from home no carrier works for everybody. If Apple wants the business market they will need to add carriers. Apple has been less willing to modify or allow others to modify it's products to meet some company business needs. It like trying eat soup with a silver fork.

I’m using the 8125, biggest difference from your 8525 is that it’s not 3G. It’s fast enough when web surfing, and does everything, and more than a crackberry or Palm. Anyway, the 8925 will be out within the month with more memory, GPS and other goodies just in time for me to upgrade. :D

As for the multipage bill, AT&T offers electronic billing, where they can download the bill via PDF. The only reason the bills are so long is that AT&T itemizes data usage in the details section.

Only 28% of jobs in the US require a 4 year degree. That leaves most of the rest of the 72% of the US as possible IPhone customers. So of course the IPhone will outsell the business orientated PDAs. The GNP created by the traditional PDAs user base will continue to far far surpass that of the IPhone user base.

So be it.... The IPhone does seriously up the ante, I’m sure RIM and Palm will meet and surpass the IPhone’s internet experience soon enough.

Totally off topic but is anyone else sickened by that cutesy iPhone commercial music? Sounds like it belongs in Hello Kitty ad or something.
