Ok but where is the oil pump?
The blame for Jr’s engine failure from DEI is the belt broke because of track debris????

LOL, sorry about that, thought you were just being sarcastic.

Nascar uses what's called a dry sump oil system, no oil pan. The pump is belt driven and (I think) located back by the rear end. Hoses supply the oil up to and from the engine.

Will try and confirm.

It may be located up front, sort of like the a/c on your car, but either way, the belt can break or get dislodged by a pile of marbles being flipped up or any other piece of track garbage for that matter.

Thanks, I just thought he would have known he ran over something, What bad luck to be the ONLY car to have that happen twice [I think] this year. I should have kept notes, but didn’t realize how bad it would get. I know he lost a power steering belt.

His new spotter posted to us over on the pitboard, he will take good care of Jr for us now that Steve Hmiel has either chosen or given orders to help Truex in the Chase.

My yard is green/yellow with several brown circles.

It’s either very small alien ships or my dog Chance.

Of course he denies any implication to the matter. /X-files

Jr doesn’t have a monopoly on this, it happens to others too.

I saw something advertised to fix that a while back, will see if I can remember. Don't hold your breath. :)

Have had big dogs all my life, though I haven't replaced the last one yet and they NEVER killed the grass. What are you feeding him????

It ain’t the sidewalk I worry ‘bout.

The rear end oil pump is driven off the pinion shaft with a small belt. I thought the engine oil pump was on the front of the engine but the power steering pump is there also. It could be something as small as a chunk of tire rubber that dislodged the belt no mater where it is located...

I knew there was an oil pump next to the rear end, but didn't remember if it was for the engine oil or the differential. Tried to find one of the cut-away car views, but it doesn't show it.

The more I think about it, the more I'm thinking it's under the hood. Otherwise, with the length of the oil lines to the rear, oil downs and fires would be far more prevalent.

Anyway, if the belt comes off, you lose oil pressure. Actually found the best info at Moroso. ;)
