Voter fraud defendant sentenced
Kansas City Star ^ | Sep. 05, 2007 | Mark Morris

A federal judge today sentenced the last of four defendants indicted for voter registration fraud on the eve of the 2006 elections.

Kwaim A. Stenson was sentenced to four months and five days, most of which he’s already served because his pre-trial release was revoked for illegal marijuana use. He’ll report to a half-way house in Springfield next week.

“I’m sorry for all of this,” Stenson said before hearing his sentence. “I’m ready to get a new start on life.”

The indictments against Stenson and three others sparked controversy earlier this year when critics charged that they were politically motivated.

In June, Bradley Schlozman, former U.S. attorney in Kansas City, told the Senate Judiciary Committee that there was no political motive behind the filings.

Other defendants in the case also received light sentences. Brian Gardner and Dale D. Franklin received probation, while Carmen R. Davis was sentenced to 120 days in a halfway house.

I read it twice, yet can't find a mention of political affiliation........... Must have been an oversight.

Hmmm, I wonder is this one of the cases that elicited insufficient enthusiasm from one of the Federal Prosecutors sacked for ‘political reasons’?
