Paul frustrates me. He is like so any of his ilk who claim to support the Constitution, and then act as though Congress had primacy in cases of war and peace. Like it or not, George Washington was our first president, and it was HE who arranged at the Convention that Congress take second place in such matters and that the iniative rest with the President.

No. The power to declare war rests with Congress. The power to make peace is in the executive branch.

The Founders did it that way on purpose. It would take the many members of Congress to agree to declare war, but the ability to make peace, resting with a single person, would be much simpler.-

The constitution vests the power of declaring war in Congress; therefore no offensive expedition of importance can be undertaken until after they shall have deliberated upon the subject and authorized such a measure.
~George Washington

The executive has no right, in any case, to decide the question, whether there is or is not cause for declaring war.
~James Madison

-----

Article I / Section 8 / Clause 11

As war cannot lawfully be commenced on the part of the United States, without an act of Congress, such an act is, of course, a formal official notice to all the world, and equivalent to the most solemn declaration.
James Kent, Commentaries 1826

***

The power of declaring war, with all its train of consequences, direct and indirect, forms the next branch of powers exclusively confided to congress.
William Rawle, A View of the Constitution of the United States 1829

***

The power of declaring war, with all its train of consequences, direct and indirect, forms the next branch of the powers confided to congress; and happy it is for the people of America that it is so vested.
St. George Tucker, Blackstone's Commentaries 1803

He would have to make it that far. I have a feeling he won’t. The adults are still in charge.

But I do understand your concerns. I won’t put it outside the realm of possibility.

I’m not impressed when I see a 3 year old hold a “Stop Global Warming” sign, so is there any reason any of us should be impressed now?

Anyone who believes Al-Qaeda’s claim that the presence of American troops on the Saudi Arabian peninsula was the “cause” of 9/11 is a nut case. Or an Islamo-fascist sympathizer.

That’s where we differ, though I understand you position. I share this crap with a couple of buds just back from the soup and we all laugh so hard we are in tears. It’s like Mel Brooks is scripting the fool and his followers...

But funnier. If I thought he stood a chance I’d scream...

His behavior strongly suggests he is someone who is incredibly unstable, and therefore does not belong in Congress, let alone on a stage in a Presidential debate with legitimate candidates.

However, it’s maddening that there are so many in the lame stream media who are pretending this guy is a serious candidate for the Presidency. I think he’s being used by those on the left as an example of what conservatives are so to scare people away from the GOP’s eventual candidate.

Comparing the nutcase Ru Paul with true conservatives like Goldwater and Reagan rises to the level of inanity (or insanity if you prefer).

"Ron’s ideas on isolationism have been debunked, from FDR to Ike to Nixon to the present."

Now we see the intelectual depth of the Paul bashers.

For someone who looks to examples such as those, it is no wonder you don't recognize the truth.

FYI:

FDR was the president who began the practice of stacking the Supreme Court with political appointees. He also single-handedly created the welfare state as we now know it. He also stole over a third of the wealth of this country's citizens overnight by revoking the gold standard by presidential directive.

Eisenhower was a democrat before being talked into running for president as a republican.

Nixon made friends with communist China.

I’m just pointing out that liberals have always used the tactic of dismissing conservatives as nutcases. Neo-conservatives (many of whom used to be liberal democrats) use the same tactic on Ron Paul.
