Chertoff warns meddling 'sanctuary cities'

September 6, 2007
By Audrey Hudson - Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff yesterday told a House panel that his agency will not tolerate interference by so-called "sanctuary cities" when it comes to hiring illegal aliens.

Mr. Chertoff said his agency will enforce the Basic Pilot Program that requires businesses to check the legal status of new employees by matching Social Security numbers and information in Homeland Security Department databases.

Mr. Chertoff told the House Homeland Security Committee: "I certainly wouldn't tolerate interference" by cities who attempt to block the program.

"We're exploring our legal options," Mr. Chertoff said. "I intend to take as vigorous legal action as the law allows to prevent that from happening, prevent that kind of interference."

Mr. Chertoff stopped short of threatening "sanctuary cities" by withholding government funding.

"I don't know that I have the authority to cut off all Homeland Security funds if I disagree with the city's policy on immigration," Mr. Chertoff said. "And of course, I have to say the consequence of that might be to put the citizens at risk, you know, in the event of a natural disaster.

How would you like to have Chertoff sitting across from you at the “interrogation table”?

LMAO!

Well, If I was the one being interrogated, I tend to doubt that it would be a particularly 'rough' interrogation.  It sounds as though his demeanor would cause him to stop a particular line of questioning if I were to respond with something on the order of "Ummm....you really don't need that information from me."

If I was the one doing the interrogating, I am guessing that I would be quickly arrested and thrown in jail for "Humiliating the Secretary and Making Him Cry".

((((((snicker))))))

"You say illegal aliens are attempting to murder ICE agents, are setting fire to
forests and fields along the border to distract US Border Patrol Agents to make
their crossing easier, and throwing Molotov cocktails at US agents’ vehicles, and
setting fire to their observation posts? "

"I'm the Homeland Security Chief. What do you want me to do about it? "

Message to Secretary Chertoff: Please, please, please... make Takoma Park, Maryland the first sanctuary city that you smack around for not helping ICE locate and remove illegal aliens.

My hometown has long been overtaken, first by hippies, then communists (former mayor Sam Abbott, who made TP a Nuclear Free Zone in 1983), and then illegal aliens (made a sanctuary city in 1984, IIRC).

Can you believe this, from later in the article?

“We do worry about the fact that someone could get a lease or occupy a private plane overseas and then use that as a way to smuggle in a dirty bomb or a weapon of mass destruction into the United States. We do worry that having locked the front door, so to speak, against dangerous containers, someone could simply put the dangerous cargo in a private oceangoing vessel and take it into a U.S. port,” Mr. Chertoff said.

In the meantime, here come the trucks!

Bush is his BOSS - not his lord and savior - - which I interpret as a religious slur.

". . . if I disagree with the city's policy on immigration"

Uhh, don't all the pro-amnesty, open-borders clowns insist that immigration is solely a federal responsibility?

Morons.

Memo to Chertoff: Sorry, Charlie Tuna, but I don’t believe one single word of your Bravo Sierra. Not one word. You and your fellow RINOs have lied to us on this issue too many times.

Again and again Michael Chertoff admits that he has no idea how to do his job. We really do need somebody else. He embarrasses the country. Wasn’t he close to Rudolph Giuliani?

That should have been a clue. I would sleep better if somebody well informed and concerned about national security replaced him.

He embarrasses the country.

We shouldn’t shoot the messenger, though. Chertoff’s doing what 43 wants. The buck stops with the president.

I’m an originalist on the “general welfare” clause.

The Founding Fathers used that term to denote a public works that would truly be used by all: roads (especially interstate, intrastate were left to the states), bridges, military.

They did not use it as it has been used by collectivists: welfare handouts, socialized medicine, eminent domain to confiscate homes, tear them down, and replace them with a private business for increased tax revenue.

You got that right.

He is the Spectre, living death. I think he could scare a terrorist into paradise merely by being across the table.
