Perhaps they are neither - it's just that they don't really believe in their party's stated platform, and only pay lip service to it every few years to trick those whom they believe to be unsophisticated right-wing yahoos into reelecting them. ;)

Lack of conviction does tend to quench the “fire in the belly”. We definately need true believers who will play offense and attack the RATS rather than playing defense and rolling over at the first sign of trouble.
