Fred Thompson Officially in the Race: What's Next?
National Ledger ^ | Sep 6, 2007 | JB Williams

Posted on 09/06/2007 1:33:10 PM PDT by PlainOleAmerican

Those who have been patiently waiting for a formal campaign announcement from Sen. Fred Thompson were rewarded last night when Thompson used Jay Leno's Tonight Show to make his run for the White House official. It’s official, he’s in. Now what?

Thompson chose to skip another Republican debate and some in New Hampshire were feeling a bit snubbed. The Fox News moderators opened the debate by asking the other candidates to take their free pot-shots at Thompson for that decision, but the candidates were somewhat hesitant to oblige, opting instead to offer a humorous little quip or two, to be added to their growing grab-bag of sound bites. Overall, they were pretty cautious, which means, pretty smart.

Fred Thompson Officially in the Race: What's Next?

Thompson used the Tonight Show to announce on his own terms. He’s not the first leader to march to the beat of his own drum. He’s just the first to do it since Reagan. It’s actually a common (and welcome) trait of those rare types who prefer to lead, as opposed to following.

If you charge it, they get 96% of your money.

If you send a check, they get 100%.

At the millions a month they are doing, it’s probably half the commission you assume.

Neither is Reagan anymore.

Not “forced” at all IMO... I have always seen great similarities between the two, well beyond both coming out of acting.

More along the lines of down-to-earth good men with vision and heart and the ability to communicate it.

“He’s the clear target of every competing candidate on both sides of the aisle. He’s the last person on earth that Hillary wants to face in debates, since he headed the investigation into Clinton campaign fraud that ended with a call for prosecution of the Clinton’s. A call deep-sixed by Clinton AG Reno.”

That says it all. They fear Fred!

Like we should pick a candidate based on a 30 second soundbite?

ron Paul shot himself in the foot tho.30 seconds was more than enough to elimnate him from consideration unless he is banking on turning some DemoRats to his camp.

What next?

Send money to Fred!!

Regan had many “accomplishments” before running for president. Fred, while likeable, is a run-of-mill candidate with no real record of accomplishments.
If we’re going to say the 3 frontrunners from the Dem side have no accomplishments that qualify them, we should not be running their GOP counterpart.

It’s official, he’s in. Now what?

The pack of wolves known as the MSM, cry out "Fresh meat", and attack. The pack of hyenas known as the Republican candidates for President, wait and see it there is anything left of the carcass to scavenge. Folk like me, hope deep down, Fred is a wise ol' critter that will be able to avoid the predators and the scavengers.

A Fred story I read was that when he was playing football (nickname “Moose”) he got really plowed/run over on a play.
Stretched out on the ground, trainers, coaches going to him, groggy he’s up on an elbow and asks,
“How’s the crowd taking it?”

Now that’s pure Reagan.
