A federal partition of Iraq could work, but only under amicable conditions, which seem to be coming slowly. The United States, and even to some extent the UK, does well with that sort of system. Israel and Palestine— not so much.

A Federal system for Iraq would repeat all the mistakes of our Article of Confederation in an area of vital national interest to the USA. It would require the USA to stay in Iraq for ever to protect the oil fields from falling under defacto or dejure control of Iran.

Current caller is riling on Bush and Cheney, telling black americans to leave the republican party, and closing with: “Damn you, damn you”! LOL

But even this is better than the fluff and stuff we get on FNC fox and friends.

I thought the idea was for the entire country to unite, it may not happen tomorrows, but I really don’t see how partitioning off the country helps unite Iraqis.
It looks like more of a L/W get out of Iraq at any cost solution to me.

If you read the Iraqi constitution, you will see that it is already a federal system with certain rights granted to the regions and provinces.

"Article (111): All that is not written in the exclusive powers of the federal authorities is in the authority of the regions. In other powers shared between the federal government and the regions, the priority will be given to the region's law in case of dispute."
