If youd like ON or Off the Nascar at FR racing threads & stuff Ping List, let me know via Private Reply. Thanks!
This is not a High Volume Ping List and is intended primarily to alert folks of the posting of the weekly Nascar qualifying and race threads.
Occasional sports or military or prayers Pings using the list may also be sent as situation or subject dictates.
Profanities, flame wars and belligerence in observing common sense rules and family decency standards on the thread may result in serious sanctions so be nice. :-)
Very nice open for the thread and the Chase guys.
Towers of Life
They stood hushed and glimmering in the night,
Giants able to frame the moon,
Slumbering magnificently in their might.
Day breaks and the sun gently warms their skin,
Veins begin to pulse with life,
The sprit of a thousand of kin.
Evil tears towards them through the brilliant morning sky,
Propelled by the blackest of hate,
Guided by a lie.
Barely risen they stand with no defense,
Innocent and distracted they are not prepared,
The pain about to be inflicted intense.
Like a bolt of lighting that shatters the morn,
Evil crashes once then twice into their sides,
Their bodies are scorched and torn.
Horribly crippled they continue to stand,
Holding onto life until the last,
Orders are given, they take the command.
The battle is brief, the giants begin to yield,
Life drains from every artery,
Their fate is sealed.
Collapsing to zero,
First to one knee then to the next,
From their dust will emerge so many a hero.
The question is asked,
How can such evil exist.
Prayers for those who died on 9-11 in the WTC towers
In the Pentagon
on United Airlines flight 175 [south tower]
American Airlines flight 11 [north tower]
American Airlines flight 77 [Pentagon]
United Airlines flight 93 which crashed in Shanksville Pa. as the passengers fought the bastards to the end.
Thank you (for the 24). :)
Thanks for the ping, NYT. GREAT looking thread!

So, is there going to be a “DEI/Dale engine failure lap” pool this week, to go along with the “Montoya Caution Lap”
Continuing Prayers for our servicemen and gals wherever they are and Prayers for our America on this historic day...
We still have a JPM Rubby Gordon moment or two left.. engines, I don’t know about a pool,, it’s been a rough one this year..
Thanks for the thread and link to 9/11 tribute.
Prayers for continued healing for all those left behind that fateful day.
He’s out of the chase so the engines should be fine from here on /sarc
Talladega testing continues - with tweaks
SCENEDAILY - 1:28PM ET TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 11, 2007 - BY KENNY BRUCE - ASSISTANT MANAGING EDITOR
TALLADEGA, Ala. - Tuesday’s early-morning speeds were much slower as NASCAR’s Nextel Cup Series teams hit the track with a slightly different package for the second day of testing of the car of tomorrow at Talladega Superspeedway.
Changes included the use of a smaller restrictor plate - 31/32nds of an inch instead of the 1-inch plate used on Monday - and a reduction in the height of the wicker on top of the rear wing - from 1 1/4 inches to 1 inch.
We can make the cars go 190 on average with no plates, but once the cars are running together, they’d be way over 200 mph,” said Penske Racing driver Ryan Newman. “There’s a happy medium NASCAR is looking for, and I’m fully aware of that.”
Thanks for the nice comments about the thread.
Don't have time to read the article at the moment.:)
Infield Parking has a free Chase Fantasy Game
With the 2007 season winding down, we thought wed have a little fun with the chase. This game is easy to play, and its free! Grand prize winner will receive 4 All-Access Pit Passes and Tickets for 4 to the race of their choice in 2008.
Top 10 runners up will receive a prize pack from Harley Davidson & Infield Parking.
BTW What race would everyone choose to go to if they won?
I’m thinking Daytona.
YA DONE GOOD!!
Especially since I was whining to someone else last night that it would be really nice if the thread got posted today and included 9/11.....
No need to worry about the timing issue....yours is spot on! :)
Hornish to run at NHIS in #06: Sam Hornish Jr., driver of the #06 Penske Truck Rental Dodge Avenger, will attempt to make his Nextel Cup Series debut at New Hampshire on Sunday in the Car of Tomorrow. This is Hornish’s first run at the 1.058-mile oval. Although Hornish’s 2008 plans have not been determined, the 28-year-old will attempt to qualify for no more than seven events, including each of the five remaining COT races with Roy McCauley leading the charge taking chassis PRS-512 to this weekend’s Sylvania 300.
The UAW-Dodge 400!
In my best Dick Vitale impression....
Bristol, baby, Bristol!
It would be a tough decision.
I doubt I can win, it’s one of those salary cap games and I haven’t done well with those.
Bristol would also be a great choice.
It’s the pit passes that entice me. :)
Also....I have no reason to stay up for this but some may be interested.
The top-12 drivers will appear on The Late Show with David Letterman on Wednesday, September 12, 11:35pm/et on CBS.(9-11-2007)
Oh, yea. Up until last year I was really bummed about the pit pass thing at LVMS - had to be 18 yrs of age...the boy.
Then some brainiac thunk up the Neon Garage idea...and the world was right again!
Pit passes are still separate purchase, but I - and the boy - are less than 10 ft from where that ticket holder is. And I can see the front end of the garage stall, about 12" away (with my nose pressed against the glass!), and they can't!
I saw that, I’m glad they both got rides this week.
Hornish is interesting to me in that I’m wondering how he will do starting Nascar in the COT of all things.
There’s been a little scuttlebutt that Stremme may be gone early so Dar-Ash can get used to the car this year.
And Ambrose should have a ride from Crash at Dover.
I read the article. While the author obviously likes JG, he does make a good point or two.
BUT....pretty much the same with the NFL, isn't? You can be undefeated in the regular season, lose the next game and you go home. No respect for the undefeated regular season performance.
Or the year Smoke did not make it, lack luster during the first 26 races, does not make the chase, then wins, what - 3 races in the final 10?
I think it's a stretch to say that JG was / will be again robbed. Everybody knows the rules. Who can make it happen when it counts the most?
It takes a whole lot to win a Cup championship, perhaps more so than any other sport.....you win 4 games in the NFL and you be the King....4 games in the NBA, etc.
A recent article suggested the Chase be limited to 5 or 6 drivers........??
I do think they need to change the qualification criteria for the top
10 12, though.....you have to have a win to get in.
A line has to be drawn somewhere. IMHO, I think the latest set of qualifications to enter the Chase seem to be fair.
And now that it has begun it will be interesting to see who will be the biggest whinner. I vote for the elder shrub.
DirecTV really gave me the beak, when ever KUBU is on, I can't lock out the channel so as not to hit it by mistake.
I really can't stand to listen to him when he tries to play "team leader".....gag.....
Apologies in advance to the KUBU fan out there....
That’s a great pic! Thanks, I’ve added it to my collection.
You are welcome to jump in on the fun here anytime!
Thanks for the Grok weather map. Hope it’s clear on raceday.
Anybody gonna throw some meat on the grill this weekend?
If you look at it, it doesn't make sense. In other sports playoffs, only those that get to the finals get to play. That's not the case with Nascar. All teams are still involved and someone not even close, can take out the points leader. The alternative of only having 10-12 cars on the track for the final races would be far too boring (read IROC).
The chase places far too much emphasis on the last 10 races, they're suddenly more important than the first ten, but only to the 10-12 in the finals. What the hell about the other 30-odd drivers, sponsors, and fans?
Championships should reflect consistency and not come down to having one set of fans cheer the demise of another's driver.
I view it as another fix to a non existent problem. If a driver runs off with the points lead, then he deserves the championship.
Enough "rant of the day". :)
An old proverb: Be carefull of what you wish for!
I hope the JGR teams are still happy after the fisrt few weeks. My guess is that if Smoke ain't happy, nobody there is gonna be happy.
Are ya done yet? LOL
A 60 point spread is virtually insignificant in the course of a 10 week span.
It’ll be fun. Really!
They should have more underdogs in it. Not sure of the final number but 20 seems just about right for me.
Let's face it, week after week there are only about 20 that really have a chance. Jr. not being in it this year is silly (perfect example for 20).
Any drivers from 13-20 that finish in the top five make the Chase.
That should create some mayhem & chaos!
Got a new laptop, told wife it was for work. It's supposed to be, but this is where I came first. LOL
How about 43???? :)
New laptop? Details!
How is Vista?
It's just a plain simple Dell Vostro 1500. Still trying to figure out how to set things up. Haven't quite decided on email addresses and all that garbage. While I love new toys, I am never thrilled about setting up new computers.
The race itself is fun itself but this site makes it more exciting because you all tell me what to watch and what is really going on. I now go to my pub and explain stuff to them.
Thanks to all the hosts and participants here.
Tip a few for me too, enjoy!
That’s why I call ‘em Confusers!
Big storm rolling thru now. Hope power and cable stays up.
Sat dish took a short nap.
We had the same earlier here. Lightning flickering all around and I have a new computer hooked up. Just wonderful. LOL
Once I get over having picked the drivers (oh, the shame of it all) I'm thinkin beer butt chicken, grilled corn and tater salad. Oh, and homemade onion rings. With far sauce. Yep. Should be perfect deck weather this weekend. Now, just maybe mint juleps. Gotta run over to the brother's house and pick some fresh mint. Hey Pete, wanna julep? Chicken?
Aren’t you a bit far north to be sittin’ on the veranda, drinkin’ mint juleps?
Cook till all sides of the outer husk are burnt.
Yep, that’s available up here. I haven’t tried it. Thanks.
