hard to say; sitting despots with hordes of blood-enemies are very loathe to trust such exile as anything but a death-sentence, even when facing a threat of invasion at the same time. Also the personality type which becomes a ‘brutal dictator’ (aka hussein) doesn’t tend to back down, ever.

John Keegan has excellent books on both the First and Second World Wars which cover this if you are interested. Germany did fight in both and started (along with the USSR in the division of Poland) WWII, though to say that Germany started WWI is inaccurate.
We (the US) rebuilt the BDR so fast after WWII not because we liked the germans or not but in part because we were gearing up immediately to counter the USSR’s interest in expansion, illustrated by the blockade of berlin (leading to the berlin airlife), for example.

I’m not judging whether bombing Iran is prudent or not...
but if we do end up getting into a conflict with Iran, expect there to be major reprecussions in Iraq, specifically the South where there is a majority Shiite population.
