These were “protection” payments because the governments weren’t doing their job and workers were scared. Now the Feds want their anti-protection money.
I believe I read about this months ago...
I'm with you. They had to pay protection money because the incompetence of government to protect citizens and businesses.
They should turn around and sue the governments.
George Orwell could not make this up.
amazing when you are at the billion dollar level you can keep this kind of story out of the news and have a plea agreement made that does not involve going to jail.
That my friends is the power of money. You can bet some lobbist from Chicita heavily influenced senators on the justice committee to make this happen.
I wonder if the terrorists will fine Chiquita for paying the US?
There goes the price of banana’s.
How things have changed. In the old days Chiquita (Then United Fruit) would have sent in their own army (banna cowboys-very tough hombres) to wipe out the terroritsts and change out the government if needed.
The one person named as having paid off the terrorists, Bob Olson (Chiquita General Counsel) lists the following people/orgs as those he has contributed money to:
1995: Bob Dole (R),Max Baucus (D)
1998: Gex Williams (R
1999: George W. Bush (R)
2000: Repulican National Committee
2003: Rob Portman (R)
2004: Rob Portman (R), National Republican Congressional Committee
2005: Mike Dewine (R), Pat Dewine (R)
Who knows who else he has raised money for or who the other 9 have bought support from... best government money can buy!
