Katie Couric hits another record low in ratings Wed Sep 12, 2007 5:44 AM ET

NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) - "The CBS Evening News With Katie Couric" dropped to another record low in the ratings last week, even though the anchor marked her first anniversary in the job on a high-profile trip to Iraq and Syria.

The generally well-received trek to the war zone in Iraq and Syria included interviews with Gen. David Petraeus and President Bush. But in line with what other networks have found with Iraq-related coverage, it didn't help Couric's ratings.

The "CBS Evening News" averaged 5.4 million viewers, the lowest ratings on record since the current ratings system took effect in 1987, according to Nielsen Media Research. Her previous low was 5.5 million during Memorial Day week in May.

Couric's stint at "CBS Evening News" started with promise -- she averaged 10.2 million viewers during her first week -- but quickly turned into a $15 million-a-year disappointment for CBS. As critics ripped the former morning news star, CBS abandoned experiments, such as a "Free Speech" segment and Couric's newsmaker interviews, and returned to a more traditional format.

CBS News president Sean McManus said earlier this month that the recovery would be a "long, long process" and he was "extremely pleased" with the show's quality.

Perky Katie tried the Iraqi waters and the public did not like it. Her network must be wondering if she is an albatross lately. But, of course, they don’t care about the loss in advertising income if it helps there liberal causes.

/Sarcasm OFF

So why does CBS criticize Iraq policy?

Haha..was it news the first time!?

Maybe it looks different now, or something. Just trying to help our MSM Friends desperate for ideas.

At a reported salary of $1.5 million a month she is, in Liberace’s words, crying all the way to the bank.

I never watch the Nightly Network Propaganda Broadcasts but since the Kollapse of Kommie Katie is all the news these days I thought I’d take a look-see and I have to tell you, I don’t see the difference between her and any of her male Comrades in Agitprop on the other networks or compared to Commie Anchors of days gone by. She fits right in.

My only question is, if America is smart enough to turn off Kommie Katie, why not smart enough to turn off the entire lot of them? They all sound the same to me. Nothing special about this commie turd.

Records are made to be broken. I predict CBS will smash this record in short order.

Kind of like when Barry Bonds breaks the homerun record. Every homerun he hits after that breaks the record again.

CBS will break this record again and again and again until they decide to retire their losing formula and present the news straight, which is highly unlikely.

Moderate FOX has the field to itself.

I predict that Sean McManus will soon find himself on unemployment.

More like her brain-dead audience didn't like it... explains why Alex the parrot got 35 seconds to Petraeus's 22 last night.

Hey, that still ten times the average at MSNBC. The road to complete journalistic insignificance is longer than one might think, but hey when the perky one does get to the end of that road, Chwissy and Olberdorque will be there to greet her.
