Another sign Howie Carr is leaving WRKO: he's replaced on Worcester affiliate
WCRN ^ | 9/13/07 | raccoonradio

Entercom and Greater Media have been mum about Howie Carr leaving (his contract is expected to expire on Sept 19) to go to WTKK. But there is a clue that is could well be happening. Howie's Worcester affiliate, WCRN, now has this on their webpage:

"Starting Monday, Join Peter Blute for 4 hours of Live and Local Talk in the morning! The Peter Blute Show from 6-10AM, and Hank Stolz moves to the afternoons 2-6PM. THE SWITCH IS ON!"

So Howie has been replaced, on a station that has been quite loyal to him. It looks like the move to FM in the AM could well be on. No word yet on whether Howie's move to WTKK is indeed happening, or what other Howie affiliates would replace him with...

Peter Blute?!

I know you're just kidding. But Graham was saying that said something like: "Let's just say, for example, that a new host joininz our station this month and takes over this time slot. It could be anybody, but let's say his name is . . . I dunno . . . Automobile."

You have other problems, if pcs are wiping out the FM signal. Probably too much metal between you and the transmitter.

Just by intuition, you'll notice that internal "radio" products for computer equipment are almost all FM. My PDA had an option for an FM "SD" card. If I put my Palm (100mhz?) next to an AM radio, it induces static, but witch to FM, and it has no effect.

Any way, the usual culprit in RF problems is a cheap PSU. The mfg skimped on a couple of capacitors. Some even have the silk screening for them, but have wires instead of components.

Felon Finneran certainly likes to make on-air threats, doesn't he? Apparently he's forgotten that he's no longer a State House Hack and public threats are taken differently than private ones.

I'm looking forward to Howie crushing this Clymer in the ratings.

Then again he’s made a threat before and nothing happened:
remember when he had the gov. on and told Howie, “three
will go out in the car, only two will come back”? Howie
wrote to the judge in the Finneran case to report
what threat the Felon had made.
Nothing happened so far.

FF will be getting his butt kicked in the ratings and one day he’ll make one of his trademark stupid threats. That’ll be the excuse for RKO to dump him.

from Radio Equalizer blog:
... when Heslam's print version of the story appeared in today's Boston Herald, Finneran went nuts, lashing out at the paper: This morning on his show, Finneran said the story was blown out of proportion.

When he opened his show, he got nasty, saying the Herald was “maybe the worst newspaper in America” and that he’d talked about his Britney remarks later in the show.

Now, keep in mind that Finneran was reading from yesterday’s Herald yesterday when he was describing the pop star’s MTV Video Music Awards fiasco.

Jane Doe Inc. in Massachusetts says Finneran should apologize. He doesn’t.

“This whole story in the Herald is positively ridiculous,” Finneran fumed. “It was as clear as a bell what I was referencing to.” (Finneran didn’t return my call last night).

Murphy, who is quoted in today’s story, called into his show today, saying that she has said on TV that the women who think convicted pregnant-wife killer Scott Peterson is innocent should be “slapped.”

“Of course he doesn’t mean it,” Murphy said of Finneran. Murphy went on to say it was a “figure of speech” and Finneran always gushes about his kids and granddaughter.

Finneran said the station’s switchboard would have lit up if he’d made innappropriate remarks.

Hey Finneran, a station's switchboard only lights up when a show has listeners.

Hired more as a favor to the local Democrat Party political establishment than for his on- air skills, which are atrocious, "Tommy Taxes" (as he is known locally for his dedication to the Dukakis- inspired ideology of Taxachusetts) has so far struggled to generate ratings.

As a result, could this be a mere stunt? Possibly, but more likely it's little more than a corrupt, washed-up political hack shooting off his mouth.

“Leave Brittney alone...?” what a sound clip.

AUDIO RECORD WIZARD 3
I have this ($24.99)...
http://www.nowsmart.com/arwizard/index.html
You can set a timer and record what you want. Record
off any source (cass., record player, radio, etc.).
It comes out as .mp3 files. Use “wave out mix” to
record right from your computer (like a streamcast)

pretty easy to use. Has record, pause, and play buttons

>>The sound recorder program is designed to work directly with your sound card, so can record almost all audio from your sound card at near-perfect quality. You can record sound from a microphone, line-in, and just about any other programs (such as winamp, realplay, windows media player and others). The Audio Record Wizard interface is easy to use, and well-suited to both novice and expert PC users alike.
Note - In the trial version, you are limited to 3 minutes of recording time. If you are satisfied with the recording quality, and would like to use it without recording time limitation, please buy the product.

(There may be some software around for FREE that
will enable you to tape Howie, too)

Then transfer to your mp3 player.

here’s an example of just under a minute of Howie
recorded with AudioRecordWizard 3...I actually used
“line in” (get an adapter: 1/8” plug on one end goes
into comp., other end has “RCA plugs” going into my stereo)

http://howiecarr.freehostia.com/howie07913.mp3

gives you an idea of how good it can sound

in my case, I’d be going to bed around 4:30...and would
set up timer to record it. Or could stay up and listen to Howie and then sleep in morning (work nights), but more likely would go to bed around 4 or 4:30 and tape Howie for listening later.
When/if Howie goes to WTKK, be assured the ping list will
continue. I’ll just ping everyone before I hit the sack.

Actually,Blute’s original partner was the late, great Andy Mose who died much too soon. That was the greatest AM show ever!!!
Whatever happened to Ozone. He was truly an aquired taste but I really grew to like him.Why was he fired?

That’s right—sorry I didn’t remember Andy! Not sure
where John “Ozone” Osterlind is these days.

Why was he fired? Found online:
“The Boston radio station WRKO-AM today announced that it has fired one of its talk show hosts, John Osterlind also known as “Ozone,” following comments calling for the “eradication” of the Palestinian people. On August 19, ADC President Mary Rose Oakar wrote to WRKO Program Director Mike Elder urging that Mr. Osterlind be dismissed when the suspension was completed. On August 12 around 6 a.m., a caller to the morning drive program on WRKO-AM cho-hosted by Mr. Osterlind suggested the “eradication of the whole Arab race.” Mr. Osterlind expressed interest in the eradication of the Palestinian people, and opened up the phone lines to discuss this program of “eradication.” His co-host, Mr. Peter Blute, made significant efforts to urge Mr. Osterlind to retract his comments or drop the subject of “eradication” of the Palestinian people altogether. Mr. Osterlind was suspended without pay for two weeks, pending further review of his relationship with the station. Today he was dismissed.”

I think ADC is an Arab anti-defamation organization.

I wish WTKK would post entire show podcasts (not just clips).

They are probably worried about the pink hand at Media Matters sifting through the clips looking for words which could offend them.

I remember Moes, but from 105.7, I think.

A quick search revealed: http://www.freerepublic.com/forum/a3a2edc401c29.htm

which really brought back memories.
