Miami Hearld ^ | Fri, Sept 14, 2007 | David Ovalle and Manny Garcia

The man suspected of killing one Miami-Dade cop and wounding three others Thursday morning in a shootout in south Miami-Dade was cornered and shot dead in a Pembroke Pines apartment complex sometime before midnight, a law enforcement source told The Miami Herald. Miami-Dade police would not confirm the information about suspect Shawn Sherwin LaBeet, but scheduled a news conference for 12:30 a.m. at its headquarters in Doral. After receiving a tip Thursday evening that LaBeet was hiding in an apartment complex in Pembroke Pines, Miami-Dade sent its SWAT team, the source told The Herald.

That man is now an Islamist radical.

Not really!! he’s now dead and, that is a good thing, want have to go through a trial that makes the cops look bad.
But, of course there is always the ACLU to try proving the cops did a hate crime.

Very strange case with very strange connections.

The “girlfriend” who misled the police, btw, was actually the girlfriend of another LaBeet half-brother, Shane. There are apparently LaBeets scattered all over the place - I don’t know if Daddy LaBeet is still alive and procreating or if he has been removed from the gene pool at last. The LaBeet in Cuba is at least 20 years older than his cop-killer half brother, Shawn LaBeet, so Daddy LaBeet had way too long a run as it was!

Let us know if they release any more information on this.

Given that withholding M&M’s is now considered “torture”, there wasn’t much chance of getting useful info from him.

And his high school transcripts just improved from a C-/D+ student to an honor roll student!

Analogous support for the argument that capital punishment is, in fact, a deterrent to crime.

When a criminal is made dead, he/she is deterred from ever committing another capital crime.

That*s very good news! It saves the family of the LEO who was killed and those who were wounded from having to sit through a painful trial. It gives the LEO brotherhood swift and final Justice!

Adding insult to the tragedy, the jury may not have found him guilty.

"And how he bought assault weapons."

I've seen many people comment on that.

How do we know the AKs were "purchased"? Afterall, the cops involved in the initial confrontation were working a burglary case. I also remember from the other thread that it was thought that he had 3 AKs. This info came out early on. How would anyone know this? Perhaps they were stolen?

We'll have a week of hand wringing about why he did it and did the officers really have to shoot him.
And how he was a nice kid and was just starting to turn his life around. Them cops, they be vio-lating his civil rights.

...and that is that.
Probably not. We’ll have a week of hand wringing about why he did it and did the officers really have to shoot him.

A week? Try years.

The two bogus reverends, Jesse and Al aren’t going to let this one rest.

Chalk one up for the good guys. At least we won’t have to hear about the defendants excuses before a jury of his so-called peers.

If you lived in Pembroke Pines in the 80s, your intel is waaaaay out of date. I live there now with the wife and kids. It's now the eighth largest city in Florida and the fourth largest in South Florida after Miami, Hialeah, and Fort Lauderdale -- larger than Hollywood and West Palm Beach.

This guy was caught in what's now the far eastern part of Pembroke Pines, near the border with Hollywood -- the majority of the population spread further west past I-75, which areas are very nice and even upscale. This was in large part due to Hurricane Andrew, and these western areas have boomed since. Happily, the city fathers happened to have the unusual foresight to provide good infrastructure. Because of I-75, these western areas are as close to downtown Miami as they are to downtown Fort Lauderdale.

It's the opposite of a sewer, and with the schools, larger houses, and tons of amenities and services, actually one of the more desirable places to live in Broward County.
