Predicting dirtiest presidential campaign ever
Hernando Today ^ | Sep 13, 2007 | JOHN HERBERT

Accusing a veteran soldier of "betrayal" is pretty much the same as applying the "N" word to an African-American. You just don't use an equivalent of the word "traitor" on someone who has dedicated his uniformed adult life to serving America spotlessly, fearlessly and honorably. Unless you're a prominent Democrat advocating the party's left-wing "MoveOn.org"?political lobbying unit, you don't play politics with an all-out war. "MoveOn" placed an infamous full-page ad in the New York Times recently, accusing Gen. David Petraeus (aka "Betray Us")?of being just a White House "stooge" for his attempt to update?America?on post-surge developments in Iraq. Describing itself as "progressive," "MoveOn"?also?fingered General Petraeus?for "lying." That was before he even had a chance to open his mouth?before Congress. Among the anti-Petraeus ringleaders were the chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Rep. Tom Lantos of California, and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. I had assumed, wrongly,?that we were sending at least semi-intelligent people to represent us in Washington. Instead, we got a vivid taste of things to come in 2008. I'm already anticipating?the dirtiest presidential campaign in history.

Yet they go bezerk if you criticize their positions on the war, and accuse you of questioning their patriotism.

Apparently, they can dish it out, but won’t take it.

Let them accuse away....I do question their patriotism. Frankly, they are not patriotic Americans, they are socialists and communist sympathizers and quite simply... traitors.

Sorry but I lay all of this 100% at the Bush doorstep. There is time for decorum but this stupid assinine policy of “Its not true so just ignore it” has to be the biggest blunder of the Bush White House. History will be allowed to smear him and he will not do a damn thing to correct the reccord or defend those that served for him. For that Bush is a gutless coward that I have no respect for! A man that will not defend those under him is utterly worthless!

Yup. It’s gonna be a rough one.

But I doubt if it will be any worse than a number of White House races from the 19th century. Now THOSE races were filthy. Yikes.

But I’m not looking forward to this one. It seems that so many people are so very comfortable saying dreadful things about their nation, their home.

My God, perhaps they should all move to Europe?

Your statement reminds me of the totality of the Clinton Years, "the means justify the ends", "whatever it takes", Lie, cheat, steal, there are no limits to achieve your goals if you are a Democrat.

Here should be the Republican response:

DEMOCRATS WANT TO REPEAT THE TWO MISTAKES THEY MADE IN VIETNAM

1) Politicians, not generals making tactical decisions.

2) Early withdrawl, leaving millions of people to die in chaos.

PS: This is an opportunity to lay the blame for VietNam squarely on the doorstep of the party responsible....the Democrats.

It will be dirty, and most of the dirt will come from the Dems and the left. Republicans will use facts and they will be the ones accused of hate mongering. Or any assault on the Demo nominee will be met with cries of “how dare you attack me personally!” and the media will say shame on those mean Republicans. They can’t win.

I am dreading it. It will be the dirtiest election season in my lifetime, I’m afraid. I can only hope they will go too far & Americans that have half a brain will be disgusted by them.

An aquaintance of mine is a member of Moveon.org - (we’ve had some heavy discussions about that) - but he told me a couple of days ago that he was bothered by the ad they put in the NYTimes. He won’t leave yet, but if they keep it up like this, he might get disgusted enough to - although most dems I know will put up with anything to put their party back into the Whitehouse.

It’s scary, because this guy looks and acts like a normal person. When he told me he was a member of moveon - I was shocked. I knew he was a liberal, he’s also a gay man - but I guess I should have been tipped off by the “Peacemonger” bumper sticker on his car.

You're darned tootin' it's going to be dirty, because Hillary! will be in it. Hillary! will sling whatever level of mud is necessary to beat her opponent. She is going to absolutely destroy whoever gets in her way of a single-minded quest to hold the power of the highest office in the land. Obama has already gotten a taste of it. And as Lazio found out in the first Senate campaign, Hillary! is immune to counterattack, because the media will cover her and play up the woman-as-victim angle.

Mark my words. Hillary! will be moving back into 1600 in less than two years unless we in the opposition are united in purpose like we never have been before. Based on what I've seen so far, here, on other blogs, and on the campaign trail, we're more interested in destroying each other, belittling whomever we feel isn't a 'true conservative', all the while Hillary! laughs at us and continues to pick up strength.

Every time the Clintons touch politics, the political scene just turns to slime. It takes all the efforts and energy of good people to deal with the slime, much less the political mischief and evil they cause.

Well some of the campaigners do have a dirty money problem, so they just can't help themselves. Here I remember promises promises about cleaning up that system of campaign finance. Not even Nixon can be accused of having this much dirty money.

Blaming MoveOn.org is like blaming the ventriloquist's dummy for uttering an obscenity, as if there was any difference between MoveOn.org and the Democrat leadership. At most the leading Democrats use less extreme (but still offensive) language which has the same meaning.

The Republicans should be really pounding the Democrats, especially those running for President, for their refusal to denounce the ad...but they can't because (1) they want Soros' money and (2) they don't disagree with it.

I hear you, but I’m not going to make the mistake again of taking the Clintons too lightly. We did that in ‘92 and look what it got us. Too often I see posts here that laugh off Hillary! as unelectable. Well, doing that is a ticket to defeat. The Clintons have always been ruthless and dangerous. We have to take Hillary! seriously, and recognize who our real enemy is. And that isn’t Rudy Giuliani or John McCain or Lindsey Graham who whoever the favorite I-hate-so-and-so-because-he-is-a-RINO whipping boy might be. Hillary Clinton represents a greater danger to the Republic than all of them combined.

You are correct. It will be conservatives guaranteeing a Hillary Clinton victory in the upcoming election.

That, and the rats have attempted to steal the past two elections, came very close, and they may be successful this time. I know Leiberman is a supporter of the troops and our mission in Iraq, but I’ll never trust him, remember him whining “We just want to count all the votes,” when the Gore/Leiberman team were attempting to throw out the military ballots.

Also, the FBI files the Clintons secured will be used to make this an extrememely dirty campaign.
