4 Arrested For Helping Suspected Cop Killer (Shawn LaBeet)
CBS Channel 4 Miami ^ | Sept 14, 2007 | Staff

(CBS4) DORAL Miami-Dade police have arrested four people in connection with the shootings of four Miami-Dade police officers, one of whom died.According to CBS4’s news partner The Miami Herald, three of those arrested are charged with aiding the suspected cop killer Shawn LaBeet.. Those suspects are Alba Bello, 47; her son, Alain Gonzalez, 24; and Bello’s boyfriend, Lazaro Guardiola, 35.

The Herald reports all three have been charged with accessory after the fact for harboring LaBeet and are being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Basically, investigators believe, they helped hide LaBeet as he hid from police in the wake of Thursday’s shooting. The Herald states that investigators think LaBeet ran from his car, which he abandoned near a canal, to Bello’s home at 12914 SW 202nd Street and hid there until someone else came to pick him up. Authorities say LaBeet was friends with Bello’s son, Alain Gonzalez. In addition, LaBeet’s girlfriend, Renee Dangelo, 26, has also been charged, according to The Herald. Police say she gave detectives a false name for LeBeet, which caused delays in the investigation.

Police still don’t have a motive behind the police shooting that left Officer Jose Somohano dead and three others injured. Police say the suspected gunman opened fire with a high-powered weapon during a traffic stop in Southwest Miami-Dade. Hours later, Labeet was found about 30 miles north of the original shooting scene. He was killed by police after an exchange of gunfire in Pembroke Pines.

I’ve never had anyone explain to any rational degree what difference that makes.

It's obvious, silly. Murdered people aren't actually dead if they're killed by a native-born American criminal. They're just resting.

But you don’t know if they are illegal or not, you are merely speculating.

Exactly.

And when that facet is revealed, one way or the other, it will improve our database (either way). Beats the crap out of hiding data that could be meaningful.

In the meantime, there's nothing wrong with speculating....that's how "Lt. Colombo" got famous.

Hey bboop,
If I were a betting man I would say yes to your question. My personal opinion is that it is an alliance between the musleem converts and the latino illegals to get the man. Honkies are their enemy, especially the true warriors in blue.

This is my story and I am sticking to it.

As I See It,

Once solely found in the hands of soldiers, high-powered assault weapons like the one believed to have been used in Thursday's attack are becoming the guns of choice for gang members and other violent criminals.

Once again, the media lies. Assault weapons that soldiers use are full -auto. You cannot buy or own these without a costly permit and vetting process.

Semi-auto weapons, which exist in the millions in this country as hunter's weapons of choice, are not assault weapons because they "look" military. Any semi-auto deer rifle would do exactly the same amount of damage (and don't--unless you're a deer).

I’m sure democrats are crying their eyes out today about this savage dog being sent to his Maker. Probably not one tear though for the dead and injured cops.

This is the shooting - police killing - the MDPD, Broward County Sheriffs Office, and FBI are currently testing a 9mm firearm found with dead cop-killer Shawn LaBeet to see if it was the same weapon used in the still-unsolved shooting of Sgt. Thank you for your #23, that’s about the best justification I’ve seen. Because frankly, (not speaking of you, here) “I wonder if the perps are illegal because I can use it to score political points” doesn’t sound very conservative, no matter what Rick thinks.

Cop-Shooting Suspect Killed

LaBeet's Girlfriend Faces $50,000 Bond
CBS 4 Miami - Sep 14, 2007 6:27 pm EST
http://cbs4.com/topstories/local_story_257182022.html

Renee Dangelo, 26, was in bond court on Friday where the judge set the maximum bond at $50,000. Dangelo was crying as the judge said he could not believe someone would mislead police as she reportedly did, giving detectives a false name for Shawn LaBeet, delaying the investigation. She has been charged with accessory after the fact for harboring LaBeet. On Thursday, Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Alvarez said the investigation of the shooting of four police officers was hampered after the suspect's girlfriend gave police his alias, sparking a sweeping search for the wrong man. ''She purposely misled and delayed our investigation,'' Alvarez said at a news conference. Dangelo admitted to being in the Miami-Dade house at the time of the shooting. She also admitted lending her car to Shawn LaBeet to flea the area. She is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

Brother and Nephew Arrested for Aiding LaBeet
Abstract: Suspected cop killer Shawn LaBeet's brother has been arrested for helping him elude police after Thursday's shooting of four Miami-Dade police officers. Shane LaBeet, 32, was charged with aiding his brother's flight to Broward County, where Shawn LaBeet was later found by a Miami-Dade tactical team and shot dead. Also arrested Friday was Shawn LaBeet's nephew, Jaleel Torres, 22. Torres was charged with resisting an officer with violence as investigators tried to question him about his uncle's whereabouts, said Miami-Dade Police Cdr. Linda O'Brien. They were the fifth and sixth people arrested Friday in connection with the fugitive's attempt to elude capture.

Police also said that Shawn LaBeet had fraudulently purchased six high-powered assault weapons and three handguns between December 2005 and March 2006 under the alias of Kevin Wehner -- a Jacksonville man whose identify he apparently stole. After the shootings Thursday, police seized six weapons they believe belonged to LaBeet -- including the assault rifle they believe he used to shoot the four Miami-Dade officers, one fatally. Also seized was a 9mm handgun found with LaBeet when he was shot dead late Thursday at a Pembroke Pines apartment complex. Police also took four firearms from the house that LaBeet shared with his girlfriend in Southwest Miami-Dade where the shootings took place. Investigators could not immediately confirm that those six seized weapons were among the nine bought fraudulently under Wehner's name.

Labeet's Gun doesn't match Police Reyka Case
Abstract: The Broward Sheriff's Office said Friday afternoon that a 9mm gun found with dead cop-killer Shawn LaBeet does not match the weapon used to kill Sgt. Chris Reyka last month. A Deadly Year for Police as Fatalities Soar
Miami Herald by Jay Weaver
Sept 14, 2007

- - Fatal attacks on police officers have surged nationwide this year, with 10 deaths in Florida alone.

Fatal shootings of police officers are surging from Florida to California. Thursday's deadly shooting of a Miami-Dade police officer and the wounding of three colleagues in a traffic stop add to a troubling trend. Just the day before, the last of three Odessa, Texas, police officers died following a weekend gun battle during a response to a domestic disturbance. Nationwide, police fatalities stemming from shootings, traffic accidents and other factors soared by 44 percent in the first half of the year compared with the same period last year, according to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. That rate is on track for the second half of the year, the Washington-based group said.

WORRYING TREND - - So far this year, there have been 59 percent more fatal police shootings compared with the same period in 2006, the group said. Craig W. Floyd, chairman of the nonprofit group, called the trend alarming: ``We've never seen numbers like this from one year to the next -- nothing like this since 1978.'' Experts cite several causes: a violent crime uptick, easy access to firearms and increasingly deranged criminals. ''There are a lot of disturbed people out there,'' said Eugene O'Donnell, a former New York police officer and district attorney who lectures at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. ``They're extremely violent, and it's all too easy for them to get pretty sophisticated weapons to shoot not only one officer but multiple officers.'' Another factor: the expiration of the federal assault weapons ban three years ago. It applied to 19 semiautomatic weapons, which fire one round and automatically load each time the trigger is pulled.

LITTLE DEFENSE - - What are police doing to defend themselves? Working in pairs and wearing bulletproof vests. But even vests are vulnerable to assault weapons and ammunition. The fatal shooting in Miami-Dade follows others across the state, which has seen 10 mostly gun-related police deaths through mid-September, one more than in all of 2006. Last month, a Broward Sheriff's Office sergeant was killed by gunfire as he looked for stolen cars behind a store. Four days earlier, a BSO deputy was shot in the head during a traffic stop of a motorcyclist who ran several red lights. He survived. ''The bad guys have the element of surprise, they have the firepower and often times they get the benefit of lenience in the courts,'' said John Rivera, president of the Miami-Dade and Florida Police Benevolent Associations. ``How many cops does it take to get killed until we start paying attention?''

I believe all the ones arrested are Latino gang members.

Someone said Labeet had bought three AK 47’s and was not a citizen of the USA.

If that is true how does it happen?

Labeet stole the identity of Kevin Wehner, and used that to buy hte guns. That’s the ID the gfriend gave initially and why she’s in jail.

I was over at the dry cleaners a couple of weeks ago and struck up a conversation with a prison guard.

He says the gang members coming from Central America are so dangerous that the prison has to give incentives to get people to guard them even locked in their cells.
