We have been running our wash water out the back into the yard for over 40 years. Our trees thanked us this year, it was awful dry.
Yes, this that this particular thread came back to life at this particular time is a sign that we’re due for a cleansing tomorrow!

The guy that installed our new septic system recommended the yeast bit too. He’s reliable and trustworthy so I don’t think he’s pulling our leg. It’s way cheaper than Rid-X too. We are also judicious on our water usage too. Just cuz. Also, make sure you don’t have any trees or shrubs near your leech lines. We had a *really* *gorgeous* Hibiscus shrub in the yard. Before we knew exactly where the leech lines went. Guess why it was really gorgeous? Roots clogged up the leech line about 10 ft from the tank itself. Yucky isn’t even close. Our system is MUCH happier now!
We get the ginormous packs of yeast from SAMs and pour about 1/4 in the tank each month. Keep the rest of the yeast in a mason jar in the fridge.
What about cheese and moose?

Well, the long answer: It depends on what you mean by “down the road.” Until about 6 years ago she was living on a 12-acre mountain in Clem, West Virginia. To get to the nearest gas station, you have to wind down the driveway and make your way to Dingy Road, go a fair piece to Lower Sleeth. Keep driving, go past Cowskin. Keep winding down the road another country mile or two.
By now, thankfully, you’re on Servia Road [pronounced Servee], a semi-paved, semi-2-lane road. Don’t take the fork or you’ll be on the other side of Cowskin. Round the curve and the X-way is just ahead. Take the ramp on the right, go down about 6 miles, get off at the Big Otter exit and you’ll see the Big Otter store/gas station directly below. Conveniently, they even have ice - but bring a cooler or you’ll have a puddle for sure by the time you wind your way back home. :)
There’s another choice if you’d rather not take the X-way. Stay on Servia Road, go under the X-way, drive a mile or two and you’ll pass a beautiful church on the right. Keep driving. When you reach Glendon, you’re almost there. A little ways more and you’ll see a country store/gas station just ahead, in Duck. But if you duck, you’ll miss it. Fortunately, the road to Duck is paved, but be careful if you choose the Duck store, as the road twists and winds precariously along the Elk River.
The short answer: Not a chance. :-)
***WVNan, I pinged you because I thought you might enjoy my Wild, Wonderful West Virginia answer to Grizzled Bear, and maybe to vouch for me that there truly are such places where there are no gas stations just “down the road.” ;)
You pour 1 quart of microbe lift into your toilet and flush.
I do this late at night and wear a scarf around my nose.
It stinks to heaven high.
Flush again to make sure the stuff has gone into your tank.
The box package has directions on it.
Also microbelift has a web site.
If you have a “problem” leach lines you’re supposed to put in two quarts then in two weeks repeat and again in two weeks repeat.
Then maintain every six months.
I do it every four months.
