Bidwell Junior High School administrators said a letter sent home with students in an eighth-grade class Tuesday was a good idea for a history lesson, with bad execution.
The letter, which appeared to ask parents to renounce their U.S. citizenship, prompted phone calls to the school from several irate recipients.
He concluded the letter with "After careful consideration of the facts of our current situation, I have decided to announce to everyone that I am no longer a citizen of the United States, but a free and independent member of the global community."
"The point was, I wanted to ask parents if they would sign such a letter if conditions that existed prior to the Revolution were happening now,"...
Parsley said Brooks sent the letter out with no explanation or disclaimer, and was relying on students to tell their parents it was part of a lesson plan.
She said several parents reacted adversely to the letter, but a few sent them back signed.
Chico resident Michael Hill said he was told by his daughter, Kaytlen Hill, 13, that the assignment was to have parents sign the letter and return it to class Wednesday.
"The lesson being taught in class was that the U.S. kidnaps innocent people and takes them to Cuba, where they are kept indefinitely and tortured," Hill said he learned through his daughter.
When Hill asked her if Brooks mentioned Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, where the U.S. imprisons terrorist suspects, he said his daughter replied "yes."
He said his daughter broke into tears when she talked about Brooks mentioning illegal wiretaps and other surveillance directed against innocent people.
"I think I was more irritated by the classroom discussion than the letter,"
Principal Joanne Parsley said she doesn't believe Brooks has any political agenda to advance.

Public school teachers know that they are supposed to keep their political opinions to themselves.
That surely is one of the first things they learn.
If they are going to use their position to foist their own viewpoints on kids in their charge, then they ought to be looking for another job.

The left is a disease and if we are lucky someday it will be confined in well isolated petri dishes for study with clear warnings of how dangerous it is. This is another reason why I home school. I don’t have to deal with this. Parents send their children off to the re education camps and wonder why the monsters that return hate them and hate America.
I wish we could send him to Iran or North Korea and be done with him.
I used to have so much respect for teachers. At 58 years old, I can still name every one of my teachers. That was a different world. Now, “teachers” have sunk lower than lawyers on my respect scale. They are nothing more than political propagandists for MoveOn.org’s DemocRATik Party.
Oh, she is not dumb, she is in agreement. This sort of indoctrination is required to become a teacher.
I don't think most people realize how heavily the education industry has been compromised by the Left.

“Liberal arts colleges have a key role to play. Indeed, they may be better than large universities for what I have in mind.
I am not sure I have the right term to describe it: “comprehensive,” “integrated,” “immersion experience,” are all possibilities. I think of four elements.
1) The first is obvious: a curriculum so infused with international content that a student can’t escape. I am not talking about a new version of distributional requirements with a few courses set up to satisfy them; rather, a comprehensive rethinking of the curriculum.

If my son brought home a note such as this, I would not be satisfied until the scalps of the teacher, the school principal, and the superintendent were all hanging on the school's wall.
