Cops At Risk As Criminals Use More Assault Weapons
South Florida Sun-Sentinel ^ | Sept 16, 2007 | Robert Nolin

An extraordinarily violent day in South Florida -- which began with the shooting of four police officers south of Miami, and ended with the death of the gunman in Pembroke Pines -- brought home a disturbing fact of criminal life: More offenders are taking to the streets with high-powered assault weapons. "You can buy an assault rifle for about $200," said Carlos Baixauli, a special agent with the Miami district office of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. "That gives you a lot of firepower with the flick of a finger."

".their incremental BS against the law abiding citizens and their coddling of real criminals is obvious and insane. "

That's right. This perp was an illegal alien, that was released on bail for armed violence in '02 and then jumped bail. He should have been held w/o bail as an illegal and flight risk, then deported after he did the jail time.

It is not particularly difficult to turn that Henry into a full auto. A machine shop is not neccessary. You need hand tools, and the method has been tested.

They took the lever guns in Australia, as well as pump actions, I think, because of precisely the issues you’ve raised. Of course, they accomplished nothing. Stupid people pass stupid laws.

Idle chat at the fuel pumps with a deputy sheriff after local shoot out with cop/good old boy.

Cop said: "I'm much more afraid of a redneck with a scoped 30-30 that he has shot for 20 yrs than a banger with an Ak that can't hit S**t." This shooting proves him right. I think more would have been killed with a 12ga pump. (prayers to family of downed officer).ps, true story.

I knew a guy who was really, really good at bump-shooting a semi-auto AK. Could empty a 30 round mag in a matter of a few seconds. I guarantee even he couldn’t come close, using drum mags, let alone 30s.

It’s a skill that isn’t worth much, really, but it’s great fun to watch!

They’ve simply gotten high tech. My daughter is a police officer and she told me that a fellow officer stopped a car at night a few months ago for a traffic violation. By coincidence, there were other cops in the area and she and two other cars arrived, making a total of four cops (they travel solo).

Needless to say, the occupants of the car had warrants on them - and then a search turned up drugs and weapons up one side and down the other. It also revealed a pin-hole camera with an opening next to the license plate, which transmitted images to what the cops had initially thought was a DVD player in the front seat. In other words, the drug thugs could watch everything that was going on outside without even turning around.

In this case, the fact that they were virtually surrounded by cop cars made them go quietly. But if only one officer had walked up on them, that person would probably be dead now.

Yes, I’m still trying to find one of those 40mm semi automatic pistols to add to my collection.

Here’s something you can do for entertainment the next time a rabid anti gun editorial bewails the existance of affordable handguns and refers to them as “Saturday Night Specials.”

Just dash off a quick email to the editor that explains the source of that term. They won’t reply to you, but you can imagine the blood, snot, and brain matter spurting from all of their cranial orifices when they realize what they just said. It’s fun. :)

The following is a complete assembly of the characteristics required to comprise an assault weapon within the legal profession, and the dead tree media.

That's nothing compared to declaring a shoestring to be a machine gun!

As if it's not bad enough, have you seen/heard of this yet?

NRA'int my friend!

Unfortunately, it's not a graphic from my collection designed to irritate. It came from JPFO's website - http://www.jpfo.org.

There's even a thread here on FR about it at -

Awful lot of “assault weapon” articles in the past few weeks. Me thinks the demoncratic congress has something in mind for us.

I’d still like to see the one minute challenge. As long as I’m not paying for the ammo! (There were some real advantages to being in the military, at times.)

I’ve got one cop video which shows the difference between aimed shots and spray/pray techniques and it’s pretty dramatic. From forty yards away firing a FAL rifle on full auto at four or five adversaries produced no hits which would produce major injuries while emptying the mag; four or five aimed shots produced kill shots on all adversaries while taking no more time. The impression I get is that full auto shooting should only be done with belt-fed weapons and you’re basically fighting WW-I when you do it even with the belt-fed weapons. The situation which calls for it rarely exists any more.

I agree 100%. I would not want a select fire on my rifle, even if it was legal and free. (Esp. with today's military caliber ammo availability hassles.)

Then there is the classic example of the Rhodesian military in the 70s, which had select fire FALs. Due to ammo constraints, their armorers converted all of the military's rifles to semi-only, and their "kills" went up dramatically!

That’s just twenty 30 round mags in one minute.......mags stacked for easy reach, shooting one handed from a rest like a standing over barricade position with the front hand guard resting on said barricade. Counting rounds so that # 29 was followed by a mag change to preclude bolt release slap or charging handle manipulation etc .

I think it could be close, for someone who shoots a lot, disciplined, thinking .......:o)

I am almost out of vintage 1994 surplus. Maybe two or so cases left .

I may give it a try

Didn’t do any shooting. Just got dirty under the old truck. A 200ms trigger pull- 5/sec is all I can do, and 2 sec to pick and place a mag from a pile on the picnic table. I think I would ruin the barrel doing something like that.
