Again I’m early, this time by about 3 hours, but...

Howie Carr Show live ping. On the show yesterday Howie’s
producer played “Gimme Three Steps” by Lynyrd Skynyrd
as bumper music and Howie quoted the lyrics: “Gimme three
steps toward the door...” then said “maybe Tom Petty’s
‘I Won’t back Down’ would be a good choice, too, Happy.”

—Last night a “working” version of the new WTKK webpage
was leaked. A new logo and at the top there were pictures
of the WTKK staff—including Howie. The site was still
apparently there this morning complete with working “Listen
Live” link. But it has since been pulled.

—A listener to WTKK’s Sports Huddle heard host Eddie
Andleman close his show by saying “listen to 96.9
on Thursday at 5:30 am”.

—I’m supposing Entercom’s gag order (of sorts) on Howie
means he can’t come out and say he’s leaving though he
has thrown hints (cue Winky the elephant here) and nothing has appeared in the papers. While legal problems probably
still exist it could well be that Howie’s last show
on WRKO will be tomorrow and he could debut on WTKK
FM 96.9 as soon as Thu. morning

—What about the affiliates? They’re probably wondering what’s going on, too. My guess is that if Howie moves,
the show will continue for a short while with substitute
hosts though the words “Howie Carr” won’t be mentioned.
Stations would then one by one pull out of the show
(as WCRN already has). Hopefully Greater Media, WTKK’s
owner, will find a way to syndicate the show.

Hope they have better streaming audio than RKO.

Check it out to find out... http://www.wtkk.com

The “working” site they had up was something like
dev.wtkk.com (dev as in “development”?) and it simply
says “wtkk” now.

from Boston Radio Watch

WTKK is ready to take Carr on a morning ride

Forget Bill’s Candid Camera, Casino on the Charles, Red Sox collapse or Juice in Jail. The biggest topic in Boston’s talk radioland this week will become one of its own. Veteran radio talkshow personality Howie Carr stands to rattle local talk radio’s status quo as he prepares to walk the Green Mile from Brighton to Dorchester come this Thursday(9/20). After 13 years of hosting a very popular afternoon drive show on WRKO AM 680, Carr is about to jump to rival WTKK 96.9FM where he’ll officially take over morning drive wheel from Don Imus who was kicked off the air five months ago.

Carr’s new station WTKK 96.9FM has begun airing a promo of his upcoming debut on Thursday. Although you don’t hear Carr’s name mentioned in this spot(as he’s still WRKO’s employee thru tomorrow), those who have followed his very public two-month saga to extricate himself from the chains and shackles of WRKO’s contract get the message. As of today, WTKK’s owner Greater Media has not made an official statement about Carr’s arrival to FM Talker.

Carr and WRKO’s owner Entercom still have pending countersuits which haven’t been resolved yet. If Carr does make his on-air debut on WTKK in two days, WRKO will likely try to obtain a temporary restraining order to keep Carr off the air until the dispute is settled which so far none of the parties seem to be very interested in doing.

As always, stay tune to http://www.BostonRadioWatch.com for all the latest updates and developments on this and other Boston radio stories….

how about that college student who got tasered at the Fla.
Kerry event? Had asked him questions about why he didn’t challenge ‘04 election, why he hadn’t tried to get Bush impeached...
apparently Kerry is saying he wasn’t aware they had
tasered him. Footage of it shows the student screaming
in pain.

>>”He had used his allotted time. His microphone was cut off, then he became upset.”

>>As Kerry tells the audience he will answer the student’s “very important question,” Meyer struggles on the ground and yells at the officers to release him, crying out, “Don’t Tase me, bro,” just before he is Tasered. He is then led from the room, screaming, “What did I do?”

Wait a minute—Kerry wasn’t aware he got tasered? Wasn’t
this happening in the same room? (or did they drag him
elsewhere). The fact that the article says “He is then
led from the room” tells me that Kerry should have known
he got tasered!

Looks like they moved in on him when he asked if he and
W were both in Skull and Bones

now I’ve seen the whole video—they tased him right in the same room where Kerry spoke but I thought I just heard on
CNN that Kerry was unaware he was tasered?

The cried of “Help! Help! Help! reminded me of the
bit in Monty Python and the Holy Grail (IIRC):
(Michael Palin—one of Howie’s guests):
“Help! Help! Help! I’m being repressed!...Now we see the
violence inherent in the system!”

well, I hate to say it, but you may have to remove me from the PING list because I can’t stream at work and I’m too far away to pick up WTKK on my car stereo. It’s a damn shame...

So did Howie really neglect to nail down the
enforceability of his non-compete agreement
long before before heading for the door?

These sorts of terms are common in the media
and entertainment industries, and by now it
should be well known how they’ll stand up in
court.

The development site is still, well, being developed. But you can see the (incomplete) template for Howie's page on WTKK here.

yup—that was what I saw last night. I clicked on links
and saw templates like that.

On the main page they had laid out several sections and put blah blah blah blah blah, etc.,
in the text area to fill it for now.

One major improvement of the WTKK site apparently is no
mention, and no picture, of Mike Barnicle—who is still
seen and mentioned on the current one.

Who knows. Supposedly they said the non-compete is
illegal in this state, though.
It’s possible that Howie may wind up starting his show
on WTKK and Entercom would then ask for a restraining order
which, if upheld, would mean a temporary “benching”
of him ‘till it’s settled.

I won’t remove you unless you say definitely you want off,
but yes, it’s a shame. Hope they syndicate him.

Unless there’s some legal maneuver, Howie’s employment
with Entercom ends either at 7 pm tomorrow with the conclusion of his Wed. show (Sox game will be on WEEI so Howie will
be on ‘RKO right till the end) or five hours later.

I quite agree: the less we see of Mike Barnicle, the better.

this is sad! I'm also having to cope with Drudge's radio Show(and the thread)

that is ending at the tail end of the month.

will you be unable to hear Howie (exc. for Streaming)
when he goes to FM?

Nothing about today’s show on Howie’s site so far other
than the usual mention of the chumpline. It will be interesting to see how the WRKO site changes, if at all,
after tomorrow. Will they take out any mention of Howie
(or are they still pursuing him?) They’d be saying “The Howie Carr Show” on the site even though he’d be working for
a competitor. Oh, and I think Entercom controls the howiecarr.com domain name. That is another bone of
contention.
Howie may have to pick up something like howiecarrshow.com
or howiecarr969 or something

And would the various ads keep running with Howie’s voice?
Probably yes but who knows.
