AN assistant US attorney from Florida has been arrested for allegedly flying to Michigan to have sex with a five-year-old girl.

John D.R. Atchison, 53, was arrested after he participated in internet conversatons with a detective posing as a mother who was interested in letting men have sex with her young daughter, Associated Press reported.

According to court documents, Atchison initiated the online chat on August 29. His correspondence with the detective lasted several weeks.

At one point, Atchison allegedly said: "I'm always gentle and loving; not to worry; no damage ever; no rough stuff ever ever".

He has been charged with using interstate communication to entice a minor to have sexual contact, and travelling across state lines with the intent of engaging in illicit sexual contact. If convicted of both charges, he faces up to 40 years in prison, Associated Press reported.

Feds: Prosecutor Sought Sex With Girl, 5
By DAVID N. GOODMAN

An assistant U.S. attorney from Florida was arrested in an Internet sting operation after flying to Michigan to have sex with a 5-year-old girl, authorities said Monday.

John D.R. Atchison, 53, was arrested Sunday at Detroit Metropolitan Airport after several weeks of Internet conversations between the prosecutor and a detective posing as the mother of a 5-year-old girl, authorities say.

"There wasn't much reaction from him at all," Macomb County Sheriff Mark Hackel said. Atchison was cooperative with authorities, he said.

He was charged with using interstate communication to entice a minor to have sexual contact and traveling across state lines with the intent of engaging in illicit sexual contact. If convicted of both charges, he faces up to 40 years in prison.

According to court records, Atchison initiated an online chat Aug. 29 with an undercover officer posing as a mother interested in letting men have sex with her daughter.

At one point, Atchison said: "I'm always gentle and loving; not to worry; no damage ever; no rough stuff ever ever," according to an affidavit filed in court.

Atchison, of Gulf Breeze, Fla., is a prosecutor for the U.S. attorney's office for northern Florida, based in Tallahassee. He requested a court-appointed lawyer at his hearing Monday.

I have searched high and low and I cannot find one newspaper story or media report that states the FACT that this predator is a DEMOCRAT. EVERY news account of Sen. Craig’s high crime of “toe tapping” was replete with the word
REPUBLICAN. Does anyone on this site ever write op-eds or letters to the editor to reveal their gross bias and deliberate sins of omission? From - United States Attorney's Office Northern District of Florida website:

STATEMENT OF UNITED STATES ATTORNEY: ARREST OF ASSISTANT U.S. ATTORNEY J.D. ROY ATCHISON

Pensacola, Florida - Gregory R. Miller, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida, makes the following statement in response to the arrest of Assistant United States Attorney J.D. Roy Atchison in Detroit on Sunday, September 16:

“The employees of the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Florida are deeply saddened by the arrest of federal civil attorney J.D. Roy Atchison. Investigations and prosecutions of this nature are both sensitive and difficult. Our office is fully cooperating with the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Michigan (Detroit), the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Macomb County (Michigan) as they continue their work on this case. We have confidence in the integrity of the work these law enforcers and prosecutors are doing, and believe that in the end, justice will be served. We are, of course, concerned about the welfare of Mr. Atchison’s family. Our thoughts and prayers go out to them. The men and women of the United States Attorney’s Office are true professionals – in every sense of the word. The public can be assured they are doing the work of the nation’s law firm with excellence, dedicated to ably serving the people of this District.”

Did you notice the picture in the article? The guy is wearing body armor! I'm sure they didn't want someone getting the chance to shoot him on his way into court.

Interesting that none of the stories mentions his political affiliation. Anyone know?

from all that I've dug through ...

The only registered John Dave R Atchison (John David Roy Atchison)that I have found registered in Florida is a Republican from Gulf Breeze (Pensacola suburb) born in 1957, which fits the other information.

I googled the evil animal. According to the trashy-looking site, The Fruit Fly, they’re gleeful that he’s a Republican:

...”In relation to his party affiliation, I found this particularly interesting blogger-dude who noted that Atchison’s boss, US Attorney Gregory Miller, was appointed by George W Bush and was proud of his apprehension of pedophiles in the state of Florida.

…He calls himself a family man.

Atchison’s party affiliation isn’t given, but his boss Miller is a GOPer who was doing such a good job Gonzo didn’t need to have him fired, his priorities are the Bush administration’s priorities. Every single one of these bizarre pedophiles turns out to be a Republican…so strange, what HAS happened to the Republican Party to produce such deviant behavior. Hmmmm. Then again, perhaps Mr. Atchison was so busy coaching kids playing sports in Gulf Breeze he didn’t have much time for politics.

He found a DKos link that connects Roy Atchison as a registered Republican:

He was a registered Republican according to records from the Florida Division of Elections which I purchase periodically.

(Unless there’s is another John David Roy Atchison in Gulf Breeze born in 1954.)

We tried to contact Michele Bachmann (R-MN 6-CD) and asked her if she was aware of the GOP Asst Attorney’s arrest and if she still believed that Gay Men and Women were the “True threat to the American Family”

Married? Children? His behavior has to be a shock to them. I haven't seen anything about how much money was supposed to change hands for this. I guess they won't release that kind of detail until a trial.

This makes one wonder how many of these go on without having an undercover officer at one end. Must be a lot of dangerous people out there corrupting children.

"Does anyone on this site ever write op-eds or letters to the editor to reveal their gross bias and deliberate sins of omission?"

I do it all the time; I'm probably regarded as a crank at the Seattle newspapers, but I get a letter published several times a year - I had one just the other day. In response to a Seattle Times columnist blasting the Republicans for hypocrisy on family values (Craig), I mentioned Dem hypocrisy on the environment - the lavish homes and lifestyles of Gore, Kerry, and Edwards.

I wrote another one yesterday, in which Cynthia Tucker had the chutzpah to use the recent corruption convictions of two prominent Democrats as a launching pad for criticizing Bush and Alberto Gonzales.

Evil and not to mention STUPID. Don't these creeps read the papers or look at the on line news? There are probably 50 on-line law enforcement stings trolling for creeps for each "legitimate" ho that wants to sell her kid. These guys would be better off moving to MA.
