SAN FRANCISCO City attorney blasts public defender for anti-gang injunction rally

SAN FRANCISCO - San Francisco City Attorney Dennis Herrera lashed out today at Public Defender Jeff Adachi for siding with critics who have labeled his proposed civil injunctions against gang members as "the criminalization of people of color."

As lawyers went to court to argue whether to restrict the movements of alleged gang members in the Mission District and Western Addition, Herrera called on the public defender to "publicly repudiate" a rally planned for today in opposition to the proposed injunctions.

Herrera told Adachi in a letter released to the media that he was "troubled by the inflammatory tenor and deliberate inaccuracy" of an e-mail written by the Community Response Network to promote the rally.

Adachi's office did not send the e-mail - which calls the gang injunctions "the criminalization of people of color" - but Herrera said the public defender is responsible because his office is sponsoring the rally on the steps of City Hall.

The city attorney said Adachi, whose office is defending several of the alleged gang members, is providing a "platform to those who would recklessly inflame racial tensions." He said similar rhetoric was used at a rally earlier this summer, which was also sponsored by Adachi.

Liberals vs Liberals Oh what fun!

Obviously Adachi doesn’t live near gangs or have to see their effects (like rapes of young girls). So in his fantasy world, being a gang member is free speech and sticking to ‘da Man, and healthy anti-authoritarian.

It’s a contest of who can be the bigger victim. Law and Order has nothing to do with these attorneys.

It would be interesting to know how many gangs are composed of people of “no color”?

We only work here. Salaries are too good to pass up.
We stay in our offices and then we run home to the red counties.

I generally stay on the American side of the Caldecott Tunnel, although my area has gone from Red to Blue while I’ve been here.

This program was pioneered by DA Elizabeth Egan in Fresno County and is effective.

On Saturday night, association equals jail. No criminal conduct necessary. No due process. No advocate. No appellate procedure. Just the inside of a jail cell.

Hanging out with your buds is a bad idea in parts of Fresno County.

Sounds unconstitutional. Did they make laws to that effect, so that it is clear?

No. one - he's admitting the gangs are largely "of color" = no. two - didn't we just read how concerned the SF powers that be are about the mass exodus of 'families with children' from their wonderful city???

Now they want to protect the gangs so's they can roam and rape and rob without any restrictions.

Yep, that'll stem the out-go flow of families =

people of no color are so discriminated against that no one even knew they existed prior to your post!

we should all speak out to protect the rights of this vulnerable group of people.

Did they make laws to that effect,

Yes, with the assistance of California's AG and tested at the appellate court level. A validated gangster can't loiter in well defined areas at specified times.

Association is already covered by parole but simple public appearance is a quicker picker upper and preferred by law enforcement because no time consuming surveillance or consequent, judicial appearance is required of a sworn officer.

Now I see you. Now you're in jail for the night (just like a drunk). Plus, there is always the possibility of a bonus, free trip back to state prison, should the gangster be caught holding or in the company of other felons.
