We continue to lose WWII vets here in Humboldt County with three departing us this week. This one was a little different as he opted to stay in the service and served through WWII, Korea and Vietnam plus one of his sons was one of the first Marines killed in Iraq in 2002? when his helicopter was shot down.

Sometimes I really wonder how we would have fared without the "Greatest Generation".

Every day we lose those who slogged thru the jungles, flew thru flak, lugged shells and ammo or a radio and much more in WW2....
