I would be surprised if even Giuliani could win NJ. Some polls still show him beating HRC there? Hard to believe. Last polls I saw showed him behind in NJ and another state they had hopes he could carry, PA. Forget NY. As far as NJ goes, they are the state that reelected LOUSE-enberg in ‘02 even after he said he would oppose the death penalty for the 9/11/01 hijackers. That was the indication to me that the state is beyond hope.

I suppose if Romney is the nominee he can hope to eek out a win in MI but I can’t see him taking many other Demo states. With MI pretty much in a depression we can hope voters will take this out on the Dems who run the state. Plus a lot of voters there supposedly remain fond of Mitt’s father, the former governor. Sounds like maybe he would have a better shot at MI than NJ, PA, and certainly MA.

Of course not. He is not nearly corrupt enough. ;-)

I can't wait to get out of here.

America doesn’t need a President who can win a liberal toilet like New Jersey. Sheesh.

I lived most of my 60 years in NJ and am glad to be out of it. Its a lost cause.

The voters in New Jersey will never vote against Democrat corruption because so many are getting a piece of the action.

are the state that reelected LOUSE-enberg

Quoting Curtis Sliva is only slightly more acceptable than quoting Michael Savage, as far as I'm concerned.

Sliwa calls the senator LOUSE-enberg also? I had not heard that. I got that from Bob Grant actually, way back in the 1994 campaign I guess. Grant was assailing Lautenberg for his vile comments suggesting all Republicans are racists. Ever since then I have detested Lousenberg. Using those tactics managed to get him reelected in ‘94 I guess, though the Republican candidate blew it on some level. As I recall he was sunk by ads showing he had a very bad attendance record in the state legislature. Otherwise it seemed like that was one more Demo seat they could have picked off that year. What a shame.

I skimmed the article. Not even focusing on conservatism, I think NJ is a lost cause for republicans on the national level and on life support on the local level. Cherry Hill has a few pockets of republican (mostly RINO) voters. Moorestown is a little better. But far and wide the state is mired in liberal policies and many of the voters here are either too eager to take money from the government or too eager to give it away. I know several wealthy folks that gladly give their money to the government (via tax increases, etc.) and expect others to do the same. Oddly enough, we just got back $1,000 smackeroos from the state (though that money will just go right back to the local and state government via some other tax).

Sliva never had an original idea in his life (and that includes the Guardian Angels), so I am going to assume Bob Grant get the due credit for the nickname.

“Experts say Romney can’t win New Jersey”

Kucinich is considered a moderate in the People’s Republic of New Jersey.

“””He was pro-choice, pro-stem cell research and touted a strong record in support of gay rights. But during the latter part of his term, perhaps when his mind started to wander to the White House, those stances changed. And since his campaign began, he’s moved even further to the right, cooling off on gay rights issues, declaring his support for overturning Roe v. Wade, joining the NRA and opposing the types of stem cell research that he once championed.” “ While Kyrillos acknowledged that Romney’s tone had changed on social issues, he downplayed their importance in the race.”

These are the reasons that Romney can’t win much of anywhere, the one term loser is just too obviously phony to succeed in Republican politics.

Well, I won't be voting for Mitt. He's not a conservative, therefore, he won't get my vote.

As for Rudy, what does it say about a Republican candidate if he's got a legitimate shot of winning NEW JERSEY?

Think about it...

What a surprise! I have news for the “experts,” BIG news - NJ is too far gone and NO Republican is going to carry it.

One of my favorite FR posts ever was from Alberta's Child...

Same with New Jersey. This state is so f#%&ed up that losing it should be a badge of honor for any candidate with a shred of integrity.

I think that it says more about states like NY, NJ & California, with tons of electoral votes, than it does about the Republican Party in general. I can’t tell you how many outright liberals that I know here in NYC who call themselves Republican. In NYC, believing in abortion, gay marriage, socialized medicine, huge tax increases for the “rich,” and the “fact” that the Bush Administration knew about 9/11 ahead of time are all non-negotiable prerequesites for admission to the Democratic Party. I am not exaggerating about any of this.

That being said, in an election between him and Joe Lieberman, I honestly wouldn't know what to do.

Viable alternative range from moving to northern Saskatchewan to slitting one's wrists.

I agree with you - Rudy's not the savior that so many RINOs think he is. Liberal residents of the PRNJ are going to pick someone with an "R" after their name over "Saint" Hildabeast? Riiiiight. There's more chance of making millions by purchasing some choice real estate for $0.02 on the dollar from the Brooklyn Bridge Sales Company.

Mitt would get creamed - he would win most of the South and a good part of the West, plus a couple other Midwest states, but that wouldn't get him much over 200-220 EVs. That wins you fame as the answer to a trivia question, but not the brass wing of a lease on 1600 PA Ave.

Rudy can win in NJ because he can pull the independent voters in a 90 mile radius of NYC WTC.

Independent mostly from deep thought, these non-thinking voters have accepted the media’s casting of Rudy as the Hero Hizzonor of the area’s largest tragedy of our generation.

Romney has so many strikes against him for independents here in NJ, he’s Mormon, he’s from Boston, and he’s got a campaign that uses family values and his weird Utah/Boston accent. Independents don’t want to vote for a religious man (really doesn’t matter what religion), don’t want to vote for a Red Sox fan, and don’t want to listen to another Republican with a weird accent lecture Jerseyites about family values. That’s about as deep as the NJ media is permitted to delve into electoral politics in this state, and is the height of the foo foo political conversations in the state.
