FBI suppressed video of TWA explosion
![]() Recovered debris from TWA 800 |

More than six years after retired United Airline captain Ray Lahr launched his Freedom of Information Act petition into the fate of TWA Flight 800, the FBI has shown him likely by accident one seriously smoking gun.
The Boeing 747 blew up off the coast of Long Island on July 17, 1996. One of the FBI documents received recently by Lahr and his attorney details a communication that took place six days after the crash:
"The FBI guy who looked at this must not have read it, or not have realized what it would reveal, Otherwise he would have redacted most of it as before."

If we always deny that a terrorist has shot down a plane, then we render the terrorists’ attacks useless—because their acts of terror will never be known.
There may be a consensus about this among governments, IMHO.
Some of us KNOW it was a missle. Actually, a lot of folks know. Worked at a defense contractor at the time. It wasn’t a manpad, it was test of an anti-missile system..... thus the supression. Would have killed off a big company the defense department depends on.
I keep hearing about a streak of flame approaching TWA-800. This is not commensurate with a MANPAD.
Also, such air defense systems would home in on the exhaust, resulting in an engine being hit and not the center of the plane. One such missile hitting a 747 engine might not be enough to bring the plane down.
TWA-800 was barely inside the range of such defense systems when the incident occurred.
I will listen to “conspiracy theories” if they seem to have merit.
He also disliked Clintons stand on life issues.
Does Jack Cashill know about this?
I don’t think there are many ppl left who believe the official story. Put it in the context of terrorism in the 90’s, like ‘Path To 9/11 did.
To know the truth you have to think like Perry Mason was portrayed in his shows. Back then, it was called thinking for yourself, not conspiracy :^)
***”When George Stephanopolis was already a network commentator after coming from the Clinton administration he was discussing the issue of terrorist acts. He rattled off a list of terrorist events which had occurred during the last 10 years. He included TWA Flight 800.***
Beats being embarrassed by you ignorance, doesn’t it?
Any idea where the only other two center fuel tank explosions in aviation history happened? (hint: they’re both terrorist hotbeds)
Do some homework. Don’t be a chump all your life. TWA 800 was an obvious terror attack.
John Kerry also called it an attack twice on national television inside of two weeks (9/11 on Larry King, 9/14 on Hardball).
when he was in office, my cousin and i thought it would be decades before we found out all the damage he did to this country...it took 8 months for it to start showing, but i believe with my entire being it will be found that he was a mole for the communist and that he tried to hurt this nation, not counting on the problem of a republican congress! After all it had been 40 years since that had happened!
In his book Cover Up: What the Government Is Still Hiding About the War on Terror, Peter Lance wrote that TWA 800 was blown up by a bomb intended to disrupt the trial of terrorist Ramzi Yousef, the nephew of Khalid Shaikh Mohammed and planner of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. Lance claimed that the FBI had prior knowledge of this plot from a prison informant, but did not act on it.[35]
They caught shoe bomb boy (well the passangers caught him not the government) not long after that crash.
Now we know what may have been in Berger’s sock puppet! (interesting)
I did dismiss this as a “sea story” but it does make you wonder though.......
I saw the radar recording that showed the aircraft and then showed a smaller blip spiral towards the larger one. The spiraling was classic missile trajectory in terminal guidance mode. (the spiraling was not around the craft but a helical motion along trajectory of missile.)
Did you join FR just to say that? I suggest you read JC’s book, you might change your mind. If you are calling the theory embarrasing, then you are calling a lot of credible people and WITNESSES embarrasing. The 9/11 conspiracy is embarrasing. It based on speculation not actual witnesses to the secret government plan to pull it off.

I saw that video too. He inadvertently referred to it as “the TWA 800 bombing”.
Flight 587. I believe it was exactly that, as well.
“Jack Cashill is entertaining but WND is a conspiracy rag.”
Correct, but the DOCUMENTS appear to show that videos are being suppressed. Forget the “who” for a moment, and ask about the “what and why”.
Were videos suppressed?
What was on the videos?
Why are they being suppressed?
Intentional disinfo to put investigators in cover up mode? The clintons were pros at this type of stuff.
U.S. focused on Iran after TWA 800 explosion

Manage Alerts | What Is This? WASHINGTON (CNN) — The White House, suspecting terrorism, readied plans for retaliation in the Middle East when TWA Flight 800 exploded over the ocean in 1996 after takeoff from New York, killing all 230 people on board.
“I think our first thought when we got the news was that it was terrorism,” President Clinton’s national security adviser, Anthony Lake, told “CNN Presents” as part of an investigative documentary airing Saturday and Sunday.
“We especially wanted to look for an Iranian connection.”
In fact, terrorism was ultimately found not to be the cause, but twice before Boeing 747s had been bombed out of the sky — Pan Am Flight 103 over Scotland in 1988, with 270 dead; and an Air India flight off Ireland in 1985, with 329 killed.
Within hours of the TWA explosion, security officials were meeting at the White House to discuss possible bombing raids as retaliation, once they knew who might be responsible. (Watch a clip from “CNN Presents: No Survivors” — 2:40 )
“The administration has done initial planning for response to various suspects if they’re implicated in this,” a White House official told CNN several days later.
Iran was the leading suspect because the intelligence community believed it was behind the deaths of 19 American military service members in a bomb attack on the Khobar Towers military housing complex in Saudi Arabia only three weeks earlier. Ultimately, the U.S. government said the Iranian-backed Hezbollah was responsible for that attack.
Also, a U.S. guided missile cruiser had shot down an Iranian jetliner, by accident, over the Persian Gulf in the summer of 1988, killing 290 people.
James Kallstrom, the leading FBI investigator on the TWA 800 case, told CNN, “If this was an act of terrorism, it had an awful lot of consequences.”
But as weeks began to pass and no evidence surfaced, top officials began to question the terrorism theory.
“We were not getting information to that effect,” then-Chief of Staff Leon Panetta said. “No one was taking credit for it.” (Watch officials discuss the terror climate after TWA 800 — :38)
Eventually, the FBI found no evidence of terrorism and the National Transportation Safety Board concluded TWA 800 was the victim of a center fuel tank explosion, most likely caused by a spark in its vapor-filled center tank directly below the passenger compartment.
The White House did take some steps, however, against terrorism after the TWA catastrophe.
President Clinton, meeting with victims’ families a week after the crash, launched a safety commission headed by Vice President Al Gore.
Among its recommendations: improve screening at airports, require identification for all passengers and match bags to those on board. All would eventually be adopted.
But one recommendation went largely unnoticed and unheeded.
“The FBI and CIA should develop a system that would allow important intelligence information on known or suspected terrorists to be used in passenger profiling,” the commission concluded.
The CIA and FBI, which often failed to share information with each other, subsequently did little or nothing to help the Federal Aviation Administration create an airport watch list for terrorists.
After the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon, the 9/11 Commission referred to that ignored Gore recommendation in its own report when it wrote: “As of 9/11, the FAA’s ‘no-fly’ list contained the names of just 12 terrorist suspects.”
What a fool-let’s dismiss it because no one fessed up
No, you're not. Sandy Berger, Richard Clarke and the rest of the Clinton administration find it equally embarrassing.
I cant say.
What I do know is that Mr Cashill has made a career of conspiracy and that I watched Mega Fix, and while I was entertained I was not convinced.
Jack used a lot of flimsy evidence IMHO
I watched it years ago. Don’t ask me to recite it here, but he used a load of speculation to build his case.
I’m not buying it, but I wouldn’t rule it out either.
Unless they blow up a dozen of them simultaneously or decide to start slamming them into skyscrapers. The deny and frustrate approach literally blew up in our face. We should have acknowledged and fought back.
I don’t absolutely know if it’s true, but there were several stories back then about Chinese modifications of the shoulder held missiles of that time, which could have reached the required altitude.
So I don’t think it can absolutely be said that a terrorist missile can be ruled out on that basis.
Yes, the FBI always takes the lead on investigations of faulty airplane equipment. Where they have absolutely no jurisdiction.
Right, no conspiracy here.
It was shot down. A coworker called his spook buddies right after it happened (within hours). They said is was shot down.
Did his spook buddies mention the drone test that was going on at the time?
IIrc, Algore made a similar slip and referred to the ‘shooting down of flight 800’.
Noobs crawling out of the woodwork here. Flight 800 is bad news for everybody with 100 yards of the Clinton administration. Including the one running for POTUS.
I swear, Flight 800 threads are like flypaper for Clintonista sleepers.
Well he is still at it, and wifey is obviously more than willing to lay on hurt #2. Can you believe that the media is NOT all over her case on the Norman Hsu fund raising bondoggle?
Where did the money come from? A pyramid scam selling latex gloves? No way that could generate THAT amount of money.
The media looks the other way rather than go for a Pulitzer, these days. One longs for a Republican "Deep Throat."
But then the Clintons simply assassinated those who were on to them.
Almost as embarassing as the investigation and the final FBI report...
So much for the spark in the center fuel tank causing an explosion. If you look closely the spars are stll somewhat intact. If a fire ball started there in the the fuel bay you would not have any spars left at all. They are made from aluminum and would melt at 1100 degrees or there abouts. There is the scorched paint on the side of the fuselage up and aft of the fuel bay area but not enough to be a result from the tanks letting go.Look at plane crashes where a fire has erupted and you will see what I mean. Now I will wait for my tinfoil hat to arrive in the mail.
When I saw the original broadcast.....I immediately thought, “That was one of those shoulder-launched missiles!” I’ve seen dozens of those on television broadcasts....shown in the first Gulf War. There was no mistaking what we saw.
Add my name to the list of those who don’t believe Jim Kahlstrom was anything more than a Clinton shill. Rat Bastard is about the only appropriate descriptor I can think of.
The FBI has to my knowledge never ripped an investigation out from under the NTSB. Never has the CIA attended every press converence concerning the crash of a commercial aviation aircraft.
Never have so many witnesses been ignored so completely. Hell, the FBI didn’t even interview some of the folks who called in.
No, that was John Kerry. On Larry King on 9/11/2001 and on Chris Matthews on 9/14/2001. Al Gore wisely kept his trap shut and stayed out of the race. Draw your own conclusions about Kerry’s motivation for saying it twice on national television.
Stephanopoulos also called it a “bombing” on 9/11/01 and Dick Morris refers to in his book as one of three “attacks” during the “terrorist summer of 1996”.
But what would a bunch of White House insiders who were there during the attack know? Must be a bunch of “conspiracy theorists”.
I’d give you about even money a forum participant named _Jim will show up on this thread.
*thought it would be decades before we found out all the damage he did to this country.*
Interesting that Clintoon came from trailer trash but ends up never having to work, going to top Univ. and Law School and William Fulbright as a mentor also at Oxford spent most of his time in Russia, Czech. and other parts in anti American Demonstrations.
Okay! You caught me. I’m a government plant trying to throw you flight 800 conspiracy people off the trail.

The first plot was a scheme to kill the Pope due to arrive in mid January, 1995. The second plot was the hijack airliners-fly-them-into-buildings scenario that was fulfilled on 9/11 and plot three was Bojinka; reportedly named by Yousef after the Serbo Croation word for Big Noise.
This was a non-suicide plot in which Yousef and his three cohorts, Murad, Wali Khan Amin Shah (a confident of bin Ladens) and Ramzis uncle, Khalid Shaikh Mohammed would board the first leg of a series of U.S. bound flights heading from Asia. On the initial leg of each flight they would smuggle on the innocuous components of an ingenious bomb trigger Yousef had designed. Powered by a Casio watch and utilizing diluted nitroglycerine to be ignited via a broken bulb initiator, the IEDs (improvised explosive devices) were to be placed under seats (in the lifejacket pouches) located above the center fuel tanks of 747s.
The plotters would then exit after the planes touched down and the IEDs would blow hours later as the planes jetted back across the Pacific. Yousef had intended this to happen on 11 flights and he even wet tested one of the Casio-nitro devices on Philippines Airlines Flight 434 on the first leg of a flight from Manila to Cebu in the Southern Philippines on December 11, 1994.
At the time he planted the device under seat 26K, in a row just shy of the center fuel tank. On its way to Japan the bomb blew, killing (Haruki Ikegami) the passenger in 26K and blowing a hole in the cabin floor, but it missed the fuel tank and the plane landed safely.
But Yousef realized that if he just moved the devices a few rows forward they would serve as blasting caps to rip open the fuel tanks so he plotted with Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, Murad and Shah to plant the Casio-nitro bomb triggers aboard up to 11 jumbo jets exiting Asia.
Yousef was captured in February 1995 after a fire in his Manila bomb factory. Murad was captured a month before and Shah was eventually arrested after first escaping from custody.

Boeing, I think, was bribed by the Clinton Administration into taking the fall. The payoff? --Assurance of MFN status for China( =$$$$$ for Boeing). Oh--and it was also a plus for Boeing that people were not generally terrified of getting shot down while flying to Grandmother's house.
I went to an airshow this summer and the FAA had a display up...STILL peddling their story of TWA 800. Why won't they let it go it's a decade later? Why?
Why do you say it’s a “conspiracy” .. have you studied or read all the reports ..??

Every Goddard-posted link on here "has been deleted". By Goddard's request or someone else's, I wonder?
You are new here; Whitewater, Vince Foster, TWA800 are all topics actively discussed here during the Clinton Reign of Error.
Ahhh, TWA Flight 800. I’ll tell you this. A few years ago,I ordered a copy of the the brief Press Conference Billy Jeff Clintoon held shortly after this occurred. He was shaken to his core as a human being in regards to this incident. If you haven’t watched it or ever seen it, it’s only about 9-12 minutes long, it is fascinating to see this (sorry excuse for a) man looking so totally ill at ease and disturbed in front of the camera. It’s a classic and historical brief piece of film. They’ll surely never include this brief press conference at his Presidential Library, I’ll assure you of that.
If you still have it, could you put it on Youtube? If you need assistance, I’ll be glad to help.
Or, if you know where I can still order it, I’d be much obliged. Thanks.
Not necessarily. You could just be completely ignorant of the facts, the evidence and the circumstances surround the attack.
Any idea why so many insiders working in the White House at the time keep referring to it as a terrorist attack? Were they all neocon operatives laying the groundwork for Bush’s oil war?
