Hundreds of Buddhist monks have marched around Burma's most revered temple, in a third consecutive day of protests against the military government. The monks were allowed into the Shwedagon Pagoda in Rangoon for the first time since their protests began.
They walked through the city surrounded by a human chain of civilians holding hands to protect them.
They want a government apology for the violent break-up of a recent rally, triggered by protests over price rises.

You most likely know it as Myanmar,
but it will always be Burma to me.

The United States officially recognizes Burma, because Myanmar was the name given by the military junta, which the United States technically considers to be an illegitimate government.

what is interesting to me , as I watch this unfold over the last week or so , is that FINALLY! the true Buddhists are turning out to ‘confront’ the evil junta generals, who pride themselves in posing as ‘Buddhists’ , thus requiring the services of the Sangkha to assist them as lay people.
That the Sangkha is now saying they will cease to participate in this charade will cause HUGE loss of face to them. Furhtermore it will bring down their wrath upon the monks ,whom they will seek to discredit and ‘demonize’ .
(Imagine that : Demons calling monks demons...)
The great mass of the Burmese people may finally have ‘had enough’ if that happens. It is one thing to watch the Junta and it’s soldier/thugs bust up ‘students’ , an entirely other thing regarding monks. All Burmese believe in karma, including the soldier/thugs and the junta fruit salad chest generals , and ALL the people ( except the muzzie Rohingyis). The worst thing one can do karmicly is harm a monk ....So , all that being said , and given the 1st Lady’s interest in this , I hope if something starts happening we get in there and finally help get rid of this disgusting junta....(with the help of Thailand !)

They don’t believe in karma strongly enough or they wouldn’t act like thugs at all. But, so goes the story of humanity. I am glad to see the sangha of practicing monks stand up for what’s right and hope that wisdom prevails in the government.

TigersEye , Burma and burmese are a special case ; They strongly believe in ‘nahts’ as well. Nature spirits that semi-control and affect everything . There are positive and negative nahts . Even the Generals fear the negative nahts
and Nahts are thought to be very dispelased by offences to Buddhism , as the Buddha was the one being who knew well and controlled the nahts/ nature spirits. They remember...
