I have obtained new documentary evidence regarding Dan Rather's relationship with his former bosses at CBS News.
Obviously, I cannot identify my source. But he told me during a collect call from Sofia, Bulgaria, that he has access to Rather's "personal files" and that his typewriter was built after 1966. To authenticate the document, I showed it to some of my kids' friends, and they said it was awesome.
Here, then, the letter -- written by Dan Rather and dated Nov. 31, 2006:
"Dear CBS News:
"My new career at HDNet is keeping me busier than a bordello at Mardis Gras.
"But I did want to take a moment to thank you for your kindness and consideration during my 44 years as the finest broadcast journalist any network ever had.
"Let's face it. At times I did or said things that some people, most of them partisan political operatives, considered unbecoming, ridiculous or even 'firing offenses.'
"In 1987, I walked off the set of the evening news, leaving you to fill several minutes of dead air, because you delayed the news to finish coverage of the U.S. Open tennis tournament. That came back to haunt us the next year, when then-Vice President George H.W. Bush mocked me about it. But you stood by me.
"In 2001, I accidentally gave a speech at a Democratic Party fundraiser in Austin. Later, I realized that some powerful and extremely well-financed forces think that journalists shouldn't help political parties raise money. For a minute there, the issue got hotter than a hamburger on a hickory fire. You guys put out a statement calling it an 'honest oversight,' and we rode it out together. Thanks.

When the Washinton Post finally admits Dan is a lying windbag, you know the jig is up, and he’s deader than a bunny in an avalanche.
Let’s hope rather bias doesn’t change his mind. Stay on your mission Dan, courage and GET THAT FREQUENCY KENNETH!
That's right, especially when the Post identifies the article's author as "a member of the editorial page staff."
Lord, but Danny boy has some nerve. I watched a FNC program this weekend, and they debated whether Rather would win his court case. The amount is ridiculous, and someone said the case will be settled out of court for a smaller amount.
Can’t help but notice that the (Com)Post isn’t allowing readers to post comments on that one.
Good idea since most of their mindless, Leftist readers would be posting pro-Rather/anti-Bush rants by the score.
Journalistic Fraud at its best! The thing that struck me about CBS’s latest fraud was the subject matter. Here we had a President who had already served 4 years in the White House and yet the media propagandists decided that the electorate wanted to hear about a possibly missed National Guard physical which had happened 40 plus years earlier. I can imagine the following multiple choice question being given to the latest crop of propagandists matriculating from “journalism” schools:
During the presidential election between challenger, John Kerry, (who served in Vietnam) and President George W. Bush, which of the following would be most important to report on:
A. The record of each candidate as it pertains to all the important issues of the day such as taxes, social security, the military, the deficit, the war on terror, health, energy, etc.
B. The fact that Kerry was an admitted war criminal in Vietnam.
C. The fact that when George Bush was in the National Guard 40 years earlier he may have missed a mandatory physical.
The correct answer is C
Who is this “Dan” guy, anyway?
One who breeds such succulence:
There are laws against posting photos like that!! You hurt my eyeballs something fierce.
That is one UGLY democrat! She has been beaten with the ugly stick real hard!
Hopefully she was not beaten with old growth mahogany from the endangered rain forest, because that would be bad for all the monkees and sloths and toucans and stuff.
Ugh, there’s no questioning her parentage. Looks like a younger Dan in drag.
“...hes deader than a bunny in an avalanche.”
I can’t laugh that hard this early in the morning, it churns my oatmeal!
True, but we are talking about Dan Rather here. I for one welcome the chance for him to be deposed or to be cross examined regarding his career.
Should have more laughs then a Democrat's Funeral in Minnesota.
Which may be the objective all along. Any settlement by CBS will be spun as "see, they couldn't prove the documents were forgeries, that's why they had to settle!" CBS gets to reform their own image, along with Rather's, and they can claim that the "nominal" settlement amount simply made good business sense, to play both sides against the middle.
How could someone like cBS not see those docs were faked? All their attornies would have to do is point out that it was typed on a Word doc, hence the “th”? I learned how to type on my mom’s Smith Corona, and I know what the type style looks like.
No I wouldn’t settle for one thin dime, but then again I’m very stubborn. Of course that’s just me.
