Lee Bollinger has demonstrated why we can't trust liberals to defend the West. Bollinger gave a half way decent speech attacking Ahmadinejad in a reasonably polite way, but having invited the dictator in the first place managed to set himself up as the ungracious host. This paved the way for a speech which didn't answer any of the questions Bollinger had put to him, began with a sermon against hate (this by a preacher of Hitlerian hate), and then a lecture in behalf of free speech, tolerance and scientific knowledge, and then in reference to the Holocaust, a reasonable sounding comment that one shouldn't close the books on any historical question.
Ahmadinejad also managed to use the platform Columbia recklessly provided him to drum up more hate against the Jews and a thinly veiled call for the destruction of the Jewish state. Ahmadinejad obviously carried a significant section of this Ivy League audience with him having been allowed by Bollinger to assume the role of the persecuted victim of Americans and Jews.
He made one mistake, in answer to a question about the execution of homosexuals. Instead of simply lying and pretending to be a better liberal than his hosts (which was the tenor of most of his speech) he said "We don't have homosexuals in our country." This brought the only boos of the afternoon.
Ahmadinejad began his speech with a prayer for the return of the 12th Imam. Those paying attention to such arcane details will know that the the return of the 12th Imam is the centerpiece of Ahmadinejad's most passionate beliefs. The return is -- in Ahmadinejad's view -- imminent and is the signal for Armageddon and the Final Judgement, a historical moment when Israel and America will be wiped from the face of the earth, and which can be abetted (again in his view) by initiating nuclear war with both.
America should NEVER forget.

On questions relating to withdrawing troops or setting conditions on the military, there was a substantial gender gap. For example, 51 percent of men said they favored keeping troops in Iraq until civil order is restored, while 35 percent of women supported such a course.
Nearly seven in 10 women supported establishing some rules for training and rest time for troops to limit the number available for duty in Iraq, and 47 percent of men favored those limits. Similarly, a majority of men opposed setting any deadline for withdrawing U.S. forces from Iraq, while an even larger majority of women would like to see a deadline established.

Horowitz is being droll. He knows that the academic mandarins have made it their life’s work to destroy the west — they have no intention of defending it.
Sadly, I think that in just a couple of months this “event” will have been forgotten.
Washington Post-ABC News polls are incredibly biased. They need to ask people from some red states for a change. As a woman I take umbrage to their conclusion right off the bat.
That said, your initial post merely stated unsubstantiated “statistics.” So thanks for citing your source, biased as their polls may be.
We should also remind them of the 3,000 lives that were lost on that horrible Tuesday morning six years ago at the hands of murderous thugs.
We should also let people know the Iranian president denies the Holocaust ever happened, and that he believes no Jew should be permitted to live, and Israel destroyed.
