(AP) A pet rabbit named Sugar Bunny was stolen from a preschool and fliers protesting circus animal acts were left in its empty cage.
The preschool's children gathered in a circle Monday to remember Sugar Bunny.
"We talked about how some people have different ideas about animals," said teacher Lori Peters. "Some people don't think they should be in cages."
Sugar Bunny vanished from the Community Building Children's Center on Saturday, teachers said.
"Somebody stoled him," 5-year-old Zion told The Spokesman-Review, which gave only the first names of him and other children in a report on the heist. "I'm sad."
The fliers expressed protests against the Ringling Brothers Circus, which was in town during the weekend, and had a picture of a bear trying to escape from a cage. The fliers bore the names of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals and the Northwest Animal Rights Network.
Daphna Nachminovitch, director of PETA's domestic animal department, said the group would not endorse stealing a pet bunny.
"Just like dogs and cats, (rabbits) have been domesticated, so we encourage people who have the knowledge and ability to adopt rabbits from their local shelters," Nachminovitch said.
It's unclear whether the preschool will find a new pet, Peters said.

I say we lock these PETA people in a cage for a while.

I'd just tell the kiddies that Sugar Bunny is now happily leaping through the fields, wild and free as he was always intended to be.
Then I'd tell 'em about good old Mr. Hawk. Yum!
To: mrs. a
Why didnt they talk about how stealing is wrong? I trust that the question is rhetorical, right? Everyone knows that value judgments are abhorrent and strictly forbidden to the enlightened liberal educators currently indoctrinating our children.
After all, one child's beloved pet is another child's twisted cause.
To: lowbridge
I suspect one of the kids in the class told their mommie and mommie proceed to indoctrinate the child in animal-rights while telling the child to lie if asked.
To: lowbridge
Hmmmm.... was this pulled of by a crack team of Navy Seals that infiltrated the school silently by the light of the moon, or was it an inside job by one of the teachers... lemme ponder that....

Many years ago,I was living in WA.State and had a friend who worked at a mink farm.He took me on a tour there and I got a good insight as to how they operate and such. One night he called and said some Evergreen college students released a large number of them.No they are not easy to catch and will rip your face off if given a chance. No they are not warm and fuzzy and no one I knew had one for a pet.He explained how bad the damage would be to any and all of natures critters they come in contact with. They did way more damage to nature than one could imagine.Liberals hard at work, not having enough foresight to see the end results down the road.I guess it must have made them feel better about themselves.Until their family members try and play with one.

"We talked about how some people have different ideas about animals," said teacher Lori Peters. "Some people don't think they should be in cages." What an incompetent boob.
She should have pointed out that some people think it is OK to steal, and that such people are put in cages when they are caught.

PeTA is a fund-raising operation disguised as a animal-rights outfit. The only reason for them to exist is to bring in donation money. The whole animal thing is just a good hook to bring in the donors. The stupider the cause, the better, because you select for the supporters who are most easily fleeced.

"Somebody stoled him," 5-year-old Zion told The Spokesman-Review Sugar Bunny was obviously under the influence of Zionist operatives, and needed to be freed from its oppressive occupiers.
Sugar Bunny will soon return as "Baghdad Bunny", complete with attached explosive device and 1000 offspring, teaching the tots that they (the tots) stole the land, it's Bush's fault, and that all the rabbits deserve just compensation.
To: Thinkin' Gal
