Koppel 'Hurts' for Rather 'Travesty'

From the birds-of-a-feather department comes news that former ABC "Nightline" host Ted Koppel is "hurting" for former CBS anchor Dan Rather.

The latter's ouster was a "travesty," Koppel said, on account of the fact that Rather's infamous National Guard story was "much more correct than incorrect." More:

“Dan Rather was squeezed out” with such little class from CBS News, Mr. Koppel said today at a forum at Fordham University in New York City that was put on by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

The academy tonight presents its annual News and Documentary Emmys. During this evening’s ceremony, Mr. Koppel, the former ABC “Nightline” newscaster who now works for Discovery Communications, is scheduled to be honored with a Lifetime Achievement award from NATAS.

Mr. Koppel also spoke about the difficulties that network news departments face as parts of media conglomerates. Speaking of his former employer, he said, “ABC News is a pimple on the elephant’s behind”—the elephant being ABC parent Walt Disney Co.

I also love this, that Koppel thinks being a highly successful Governor of one of our 3 largest states is no qualification at all for the presidency (while being a loser Governor of Arkansas or a 1 1/3 term US Senator from NY is a GREAT qualification for Clintonistas, I'm sure):

The fact that Koppel thinks that being Governor of the Lone Star State with a population, size, economy, and geographic borders both interstate and international that would rank it as one of the largest nations in the world (but lower than an independent California ;))only qualifies George W. Bush to be running for President of the Kiwanis Club says a lot more about Koppel than candidate George W. Bush.

Wouldn’t anyone with a sense of self realize how stupid that statement would sound coming out of their mouth? I remember them running the add while I knew the story was fake (because I read FreeRepublic) but everyone else was saying that ‘Dan Rather was a respected newsman’ so we should all ignore that a 70’s era document was made on Microsoft Word.
