Monday afternoon former Secretary of Agriculture, Mike Johanns, told KETV NewsWatch 7 he has plans to hit the campaign trail again. The former Nebraska governor landed at Eppley Airfield on Monday, five days after he resigned from the head of the USDA.

Johanns announced his resignation in Washington on Thursday. He was appointed by President George W. Bush in December 2004 and tood office the following month.

Johanns said he's happy to be back home. "It's always good to be back in Nebraska, and we've got a long list of things to do in the next week two weeks, but we're really excited to get started," he said.

When asked about his recent resignation, Johanns said it was a hard decision. Many people criticized the move.

"I kind of accepted that as a compliment even as I was receiving criticism. It occurred to me that what they were really saying is this is a very important person in ag policy," said Johanns.

Johanns has not officially announced his decision about his political future. But said he has his eye onSen. Chuck Hagel's seat.

Johanns said, "We're going to start organizing now. We're down to a point where we're starting to put details together all of the things that are necessary to get a campaign up and running and going well."

It’s all over but the announcing.

I’m not even sure that Bob Kerrey will even run now.

We’re getting tired of people speaking about themselves in the first person plural.

I hope Bob Kerrey doesn’t even enter the Senate race. The National Republican entities are broke. Any money spent in NE is less money for Sununu. Coleman, and Schaffer.

According to a piece in the WaPo the other day, Kerrey is leaning strongly against running.
