First Lady Laura Bush coolly brushed past the face of evil yesterday, giving Iran's notoriously chauvinistic president the silent treatment en route to her husband's speech at the United Nations.
Bespectacled blowhard Mahmoud Ahmadinejad glanced up at the first lady - apparently hoping to make eye contact with the wife of his No. 1 enemy - as she climbed past his aisle seat 14 rows back from the podium at the General Assembly session.
But Mrs. Bush merely placed her right hand on the edge of his desk to steady herself on the stairs without looking up, and continued to her seat. The despondent despot immediately lowered his head again.
The cold shoulder came just before President Bush ripped Ahmadinejad's government for its "brutal" and "repressive" regime.

But Mr. Nutjob never looks anybody in the eye. If you watch him as he speaks, he NEVER keeps his eyes directly looking at his audience or listeners.
Reason: He is so full of lies, he lives a life based on lies, that (like Hitlery Clinton and Bubba) he has no grounding whatsoever in truth and simply is unable to look squarely into anyone’s face.
So, good for Mrs. Bush for not even giving Nutjob the “appearance” of looking directly at her and being looked at in return.

As to the First Lady needing to put her hand on the desk to navigate the step, that probably is an after effect of the recent neck surgery. Her proprioception is probably still a bit off, and a hand on the desk helped her navigate the step.

It looks to me like she wasn’t steadying herself on the stairs at all.
As a proper Southern lady trying to make a point, she did something to attract his attention, just so he would know she had no intentions of looking at him.
Subtle, but very effective.
