RUDY: WHY I LIKE GUNS
NY Post ^ | September 26, 2007 | CARL CAMPANILE

Posted on 09/26/2007 6:29:19 AM PDT by presidio9

Rudy Giuliani yesterday cited 9/11 to justify his conversion from ardent gun-control advocate to supporter of citizens' rights to bear arms.

"You have to look at all these issues in light of the different concerns that now exist - which is terrorism - the terrorists' war on us," the GOP presidential front-runner said in an interview with The Associated Press.

Giuliani said his conversion was triggered in part by a court ruling striking down local firearm restrictions in Washington, D.C.

"It is a very, very strong description of how important personal liberties are in this country and how we have to respect them,"

One event made a difference in his extreme anti-gun platform? As big as 9-11 was, I just don’t see that one act being the justification for such a change. And I don’t see any indication in his record that he restored such rights to the citizens of NY after 9-11, or even made any effort too.

I posted the backstory on the D.C. case here a few months ago. Was in the Washington Post and was actually a very good piece—it is an interesting story. Will see if I can find the thread.

I hear his “words” but I’m going to vote based on his “actions.” He’s a documented gun-grabber ... look at the record (like Fred Thompson said). The members of the NRA are going to have to step up boldly in this next election ... there are not many good choices available.

Guiliani must have internal polling to show his lead evaporating.

went to real clear politics com and found a distinct down trend for him.

With the NRA jumping into the primaries, it will neutralize any faux second amendment show moves the MSM would assist guiliani.

It is boiling down to dean’s three g’s. God, guns, and “gays”. Guiliani fails on all three.

Let me get this straight . . . Rudy Giuliani is telling us that his attitudes about gun ownership changed after 9/11? Kinda funny how he never mentioned this to anyone until September of 2007, eh?

This man is so full of sh!t I can almost see it oozing out of his ears.

"You have to look at all these issues in light of the different concerns that now exist - which is terrorism - the terrorists' war on us," the GOP presidential front-runner said in an interview with The Associated Press.

So all of our constitutional rights and civil liberties are conditional over what's happened recently? Any or all of them can be abridged at will? Then there are no fundamental human rights, no rights inherent to human beings and therefore the Bill of Rights is a mere historical curiosity.

No doubt Rudi thinks he helps himself this way. But he is still an enemy of the Second. And these statements open up again the questions about whether he has any respect for any fundamental rights.

Amazing

grace.

Giuliani is converted and sees the light on guns.

McCain is converted and sees the light on CFR and illegals.

Huckabee is converted and sees the light on open borders and taxes.

Thompson is converted and sees the light on CFR and open borders.

etc

etc

etc

An amazing election cycle -— what with all these miraculous conversions happening to both Dem and Pubbie candidates.

Let us all sing together, now:

“I saw the light, I saw the light.
No more darkness; no more night.
Now I’m so pandering and getting it right.
Praise the Party, I saw the light! ... and vote for meeeeeeee!”

Does anyone have any doubt that if Giuliani were still mayor of New York he would be filing amicus curiae briefs in support of the DC gun grabbing law.

Fred Thompson is the only candidate that gets it. He makes decisions based on principles. Principles don’t change. You have to stand for something and not change who you are based on the polls. That is what Mitt and Rudy have done and all of the Dems do it. Give me a leader that will stand by his principles anyday versus someone that stands for everything.

I know many, many Republicans, as you do, that will stay home if Rudy Giuliani is the candidate. He does not represent our values as Conservatives, and never will. Mitt Romney is a RINO, though a very nice man that simply has everything else and nothing to do. “I guess I’ll just try to buy the presidency”. Conservatives will simply stay home…the Dems will pick up additional seats in the House and probably get the 60 seats in the Senate they need to completely destroy our Country. Nice picture, huh?

However, I think Fred can bring America back together...if that’s even possible. America needs a rebirth of patriotism and honor. Republicans also need a rebirth. President Reagan was our last rebirth and he can never be duplicated. Fred will bring his own down to earth common sense to this Country and strength back to our party. A little of the good old days of faith and family would do well for this Country. If a Conservative runs as a Conservative, he will win!

Think of it this way...Eight years of another Clinton White House? Now...that should be sufficient enough reason to pull together as a party, as a Country, and fight this liberal socialist takeover of our government. It is not impossible to take back the House and the Senate. We are winning in Iraq—they know it. The best they can do now is stop our progress and choose defeat just like they did during Vietnam. We lost because Congress chose defeat. History repeats itself when not learned from.

Folks, we are in for the fight of our lives, just as our young men & women are fighting for our freedoms in Iraq and Afghanistan, we must fight for our Country right here and now! I truly believe Fred Thompson is the one man who can pull this party back together! Rudy will just tear us apart as a party. Liberal is liberal every day of the week.

Really tick off the democrats and contribute to Fred Thompson: https://www.fred08.com/contribute.aspx?RefererID=c637caaa-315c-4b4c-9967-08d864cd0791

Yes, they are. And now Rudy's trying to distance himself from them:

Last week, Mr. Giuliani, a Republican candidate for president, told the National Rifle Association that the suit had “taken several turns and several twists that I don’t agree with.”

Maria Comella, a spokeswoman for Mr. Giuliani’s campaign, declined to comment on the disagreement.

Rudy's counting on some pretty short attention spans....

Does this mean that if the Supreme Court were to reverse the DC Circuit Court, upholding the DC gun ban, that Mssr. Giuliani would then tend to revert to his past opposition to guns in the hands of the peasants?

Apparently you haven't been following his convoluted explanations/reasonsing behind his support for Campaign Finance Reform then and now.

He was for it. Then he was against it. He was sort of for parts of it. But he is really more against it, except for those parts he is really for.

Also, as a general rule, people going out of their way to attack Thompson on this website are almost always Ron Paul nuts. The Rooty Rooters don't want to call attention to the differences between the two candidates. There don't appear to be any McCain or Romney supporters here. The Tancredo and Hunter supporters are jockeying for the VP spot.

I have a very good friend who will tell you otherwise. September 11 was a turning point for him; up till then, guns were an afterthought.

So yes, it can happen that someone has the light bulb go on just that quickly. All those little snippets runing around in your head can suddenly come together and make sense when called upon in the right combination.

The impeccable timing of Mr. Giuliani's revelation, however, is another story. ;-)
