Okay, now we finally have a reason to care about the presidential election. Variety reported this week that a cast is in place for 'Recount,' a made-for-HBO movie about the 2000 Florida election. It'll star Kevin Spacey as former Al Gore chief of staff Ron Klain,
Denis Leary as a Democratic pollster, Tom Wilkinson as Republican James Baker, Bob Balaban as the lead Bush/Cheney attorney, Ed Begley Jr. as the Democrats' lead attorney, and ... (dramatic pause) ... Laura Dern as former Secretary of State Katherine Harris. (An interesting choice. Wonkette wanted Glenn Close or Ellen Barkin; Radar Online suggested Sean Young or, um, Andy Dick.) Jay "Austin Powers" Roach will direct the drama, which will air during the heat of the 2008 presidential election. One casting suggestion: We think Nicole Richie was born to play the part of a hanging chad.
What do you think, Juice-o-matics: Who do you think should star in "Recount?" Who should play Jeb? Who should play the confused senior citizen who thinks he or she is voting for Pat Buchanan? How much should we offer to pay HBO if they'll film this thing in Tampa Bay?
She's got a similar face and very similar, uh, other attributes.
In the words of the great Eric Stratton, Delta rush chairman, “Major League...”
Or just rent “Wild at Heart” and she that she doesn’t.
I can only imagine how this will go.
“Ok, Mr. Bush, I will take all the democrat ballots and throw them away. I made the butterfly ballot so difficult that only rocket scientists could figure it out. Now I am heading down to a black neighborhood to set up a police blockade so no black people can vote!”
Ok, Mr. Bush, I will take all the democrat ballots and throw them away. I made the butterfly ballot so difficult that only rocket scientists could figure it out. Now I am heading down to a black neighborhood to set up a police blockade so no black people can vote!
But of course!
It'll be two more glorious hours of showing in great detail how the nasty Republicans stole the election from our hero Algore...and, as you'll note, it's scheduled to run (who would've guessed?) in the heat of the 2008 election season.
I like my idea better :o) I actually saw that movie at the theater when it first came out. Interesting dialog between her and Willam Defoe. I burst out laughing when he made his parting comment before he left the motel room.
They couldn’t get the Devil to play Cheney?
I am sure algore will say, “No I must not question the outcome of the election for the good of America! I only want American’s to to have ALL of their votes counted!!!”
The character of George Bush will be stupid and bungling in one scene but an evile maniacal madman in another. H ewill be drinking and doing lines of coke of strippers. Algore will be going to church and helping kittens out of trees.
Dude, she's running for Election when this thing comes out. It'ld be awkward.
I agree about Mimi, Laura will need some padding for the role.
Laura hasn’t had much work lately.
Anything since Jurassic Park?
She probably came cheap.
Who will play the bald, bug-eyed, hanging chad, inspector guy?
That makes a movie????? YAWN!
Another movie nobody will see.
That was my first thought also. Who is going to watch such a boring movie anyway? Nobody I know. Here is the name of the movie: Bad Chad Made Fat Lad Sad, Mad.
Who are they going to get to play the black guy getting off the bus saying, “I punched the second hole. I ALWAYS punched the second hole, like I’m supposed to”.
I actually saw that on a news segment here. Never saw it anywhere else, ever again.
IMHO The demos bused in a whole bunch of senile and illiterate old folk and told them to “punch the second hole”.
Some Left-wing Jerk on Wikipedia wrote a gloating tribute to that episode, to its’ mischarcterization of our beloved Harris.
(Makes you realize how ‘uberleft’ Wikipedia and Youtube really are![ Where is Bill O'reilly not attacking those two sites?])
Sometimes I think that more of New York City should have been destroyed on 9-11, where you find SNL’s production studios!!!!!!

The New York Media, concentrated in Manhattan, is and always has been a ‘poison factory’.
