Congressman John Dingell Proposes 50-cent Gas Tax Hike to Fight Global Warming
Fox News ^ | 09-27-07 | AP via Fox News

Dealing with global warming will be painful, says one of the most powerful Democrats in Congress. To back up his claim he is proposing a recipe many people won't like — a 50-cent gasoline tax, a carbon tax and scaling back tax breaks for some home owners.

"I'm trying to have everybody understand that this is going to cost and that it's going to have a measure of pain that you're not going to like," Rep. John Dingell, who is marking his 52nd year in Congress, said Wednesday in an interview with The Associated Press.

Dingell will offer a "discussion draft" outlining his tax proposals on Thursday, the same day that President Bush holds a two-day conference to discuss voluntary efforts to combat climate change.

But Dingell, chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee that will craft climate legislation, is making it clear that he believes tackling global warming will require a lot more if it is to be taken seriously.

"This is going to cause pain," he said, adding that he wants to make certain "the pain is shared in a way that is fair, proper, acceptable and accomplishes the basic purpose" of reducing greenhouse gases, mainly carbon dioxide from burning fossil fuels.

Double-Dog Dittos to that!! Give Dingbat and the other RAT/lib/socialists more money, and they will SPEND it on everything BUT “climate change”. Just look at how the legislators spent all of the “for the children” money they got from “Big Tobacco.” (Must — check — blood pressure!)

THE PARTY OF THE WORKIN' MAN!

Idiots actually vote this way, actually believing this. This tax increase will devastate the lower middle class, the so-called "working poor" that the PARTY OF THE WORKIN' MAN! claims to represent.

To the struggling $11-an-hour worker, the PARTY OF THE WORKIN' MAN! says: Take the bus. Oh, you have to take three buses to get to your job? Too bad. Suck it up.

And the sad thing is its a set-up that everyone will fall for. People will protest, fight, yada yada yada and they will get the 50 cent increase cut to 10 or 15.

As people celebrate their big victory the politicians will laugh at how thats all they wanted in the first place....

Happens all the time.

In the United States it is more that a few miles to get to the store in most cases. If you live in a small country a $5.00 tax on a gallon of gasoline that will take you from border to border sounds good. But in this country a gallon of gasoline will not get you out of most cities.

I still don’t understand how increasing taxes will change the climate. I guess I’m dense.

Coming from “elected”politicians who have more perks on our dime that they can use, legislate raises for themselves, pass laws for themselves that do not pertain to us common folk, which would put many of us under the jail, best health care Americans could only dream of,and an endless list of the same.
Hypocrisy and a sense of entitlement that would shame anyone with any sense of humility. To sit on their thrones and all they can do is attempt to “make work” which consists of basically nothing worthwhile. And we pay and pay.We deserve some of the blame.Either we have become complacent,or have been educated[indoctrinated]or are just plain stupid.Training to be a professional politician when many are of dubious character will be par for the course in many”prestigious”higher education facilities. The poster College would be Columbia, which I hated capitalizing.

Tax the productive, destroy the economy, shut down those power consuming evil businesses. Unemployed people don’t need to drive to work anymore.

Gotta remember this idiot runs in a Detroit district - not exactly the brightest in the nation . . . . The welfare, drugs, crime, etc., in the city of Detroit give some idea of what type of population votes for him. Gotta say, though, the last election in Detroit was hysterical - the candidates were arguing about which one of them padded the ballot box with the most dead voters.

My aunt, Sister Mary Zachary, IHM, died last week at age 95. Years ago, she told me that she had taught Dingell in the third grade in a school in downtown Detroit. Too bad she didn’t work on little Johnny a bit harder and beat some sense into him with that T-Square (like they did to me).

Unfortunately a prerequisite for voting doesn’t involve using one’s brain. As far as I can tell, only a heart-beat is needed.

In fact, it wouldn’t AT ALL surprise me if one day a hypocrat sues to have a family member on a ventilator, a vegetable if you will, to vote!

And come to think of it, sitting around the dinner table discussing these things, the only way you could tell is he’d be the one with the hose down his throat!

I think the war on poverty should remind everyone that they have no freaking clue what they're doing and the money won't make one damn bit of difference.

Of course. Everyone knew full well the "War on Poverty" was a vote-buying scam. Still is. "Global Warming" is just as big a scam. But with this kind of revenue diverted to their schemes, and the 'rats' active criminal collusion with global socialist interests we Americans may never know what hit us this time.
