Sarkozy's Seismic Shift Has Given New Life To Bush's Mideast Policy
IBD ^ | September 27, 2007 | Charles Krauthammer

Ahmadinejad at Columbia provided the entertainment, but Sarkozy at the U.N. provided the substance. On the largest possible stage — the U.N. General Assembly — President Nicolas Sarkozy put Iran on notice.

His predecessor, Jacques Chirac, had said that France could live with an Iranian nuclear bomb. Sarkozy said that France cannot. He declared Iran's nuclear ambitions "an unacceptable risk to stability in the region and in the world."

His foreign minister, Bernard Kouchner, had earlier said that the world faces two choices — successful diplomacy to stop Iran's nuclear program or war. And Sarkozy himself has no great hopes for the Security Council, where China and Russia are blocking any effective action against Iran. He does hope to get the European Union to join the U.S. in imposing serious sanctions.

"Weakness and renunciation do not lead to peace," he warned. "They lead to war." This warning about appeasement was intended particularly for Germany, which for commercial reasons has been resisting U.S. pressure to support effective sanctions.

Sarkozy is no American lap dog. Like every Fifth Republic president, he begins with the notion of French exceptionalism. But whereas traditional Gaullism tended to define French grandeur as establishing a counterweight to American power, Sarkozy is not adverse to seeing French assertiveness exercised in conjunction with the United States.

We evidently lost Britain, but gained France. Not sure yet whether it was a good trade or not!! Time will tell - "

Don't worry! Now that the table has turned, the Brits are not about to let France parade around with the biggest brass balls. Expect the Brits to be coming back into the fight down the road -- as soon as they can get rid of their wussies.

Don't hold your breath while waiting. The UK may never recover from the Islamicization they brought upon themselves.

Then again, the Brits might just take a hostile position to France. They did fight a 100 years long war against each other in the past. That length of time makes the Iraq war look like a walk in the park.

Isn't Gordon Brown the new Wuzzie in Chief? He's got at least a couple, probably more like four, years to run at a minimum.....

But, who knows. "Events" may force his hand before long!

Wrong! Sarko is a Conservative and the Left hates him...in France and in the US. Read the NY Times and IHT interview with Sarko..they portray him almost as Mad King Ludwig, a real nervous, neurotic, “rightwing” nut case.

Sarko is indeed a breath of fresh air but what will happen when the bombs start going off in Paris? I would think France is now a priority on the jihadi murder & mayhem list because Sarko is a real danger to them.

that’ll be the least of our problems if her pigness gets “elected” via voter fraud and illegal aliens voting en masse(i am not a conspiracy theorist-i have proof of what i say about this-it’s been going on for decades)-it would be our luck to have a strong leader defending western in france while a stinking internationalist bitch squats in the oval office on her foul haunches-anyone who watched her face in the last debate has seen the evil in her eyes as she “smiled”-if i were joe biden i’d watch my back-she treated “tough guy” tim russert like a naughty schoolboy and he backed down to her-my nightmare is the republicans running gun grabber giuliani against her-no one to vote for
