RENO, Nev — Federal agents raided 11 McDonald's restaurants in northern Nevada and made dozens of arrests Thursday as part of an investigation into illegal immigration.
Agents for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement made at least 56 arrests in Reno, Sparks and Fernley after raids at the restaurants and a franchise corporate headquarters in Reno, agency spokesman Richard Rocha said.
"They are people suspected of being in the country illegally. As far as I know, they were all McDonald's employees," he told The Associated Press.
The investigation began five months ago and was sparked by an identity theft complaint, Rocha said. A local law enforcement agency then gave ICE information that illegal immigrants were working at specific McDonald's restaurants, he said.
Lisa Howard, a spokeswoman for McDonald's Corp., based in Oak Brook, Ill., said the company had no comment on the arrests.
"This is a local situation with a local operator," she said.
The raids drew immediate criticism from Reno Mayor Bob Cashell and activists, who estimated the number of arrests to be closer to 100.

I’m gonna’ guess the two local McD’s in my neighborhood are 50 to 80 percent illegals. Often have to enuncuiate the order three times, slowly.
Once stopped at the BK directly across the street from Sallie Mae ($18 billion in student loans) in Reston VA. Mid-morning, and I asked if any breakfast items were still available.
Not a single person in the store spoke English (”Have breakfast now?”... pointing at watch).
“No se.”
I’m sure they would have understood “Have green card?”
(a). Any citizen knowingly employing, sheltering, concealing, or otherwise assisting (other than emergency medical care) an illegal alien shall suffer forfeiture of all property, real and personal, all assets, businesses, business licenses, and any other thing except his/her physical freedom and two changes of clothing; after which he/she may seek employment and start over.
(b). Any non-citizen legally resident, acting as described in para (a) above, shall suffer the same penalty and be deported to his/her country of origin within 48 hours.
(c). Any public official, in any branch of government, at any level, who under color of clemency, legal discretion, or other official privilege, shall obstruct, alter, or modify the swift application and extent of paras (a) and (b) to any degree soever, shall suffer the same penalty and be summarily removed from office.
(That’s to keep judges from saying “ooooo, that’s too harsh” and governors etc. from handing out pardons to business-owner buddies.)
I know it's harsh. It's meant to be.
As for the illegals themselves, my law is:
"Detain upon detection, and deport within 24 hours."
McDonalds is probably the largest employer of illegal aliens in the nation.

Upon reflection, if I.C.E. really had any cojones, though, they would pay a visit to THE CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS OF McDONALDS and go after some of the gated community BIG WIGS who make the 6 figures, not some loser assistant shift manager flunkies in flyover America making $20,000 a year who basically hired cheap Mexican/C.A. labor as they were instructed from on-high.
For ONCE I would like to see the shackles and handcuffs on some of the empty suits who thought they were clever by cutting labor costs to raise their perks and stock options, and screwing American workers, teenagers looking for summer jobs, and average American consumers everywhere who simply want their English to be understood when placing what would hopefully be comprehended orders. This is a massive, nationwide, structural problem. Do I have a witness?
