Border fence nearly doubles
LA Times ^ | 29 September 2007 | Richard Marosi

Posted on 09/29/2007 4:06:06 AM PDT by shrinkermd

After reporting sluggish progress last month, U.S. officials announce that the stretch of barriers has grown to 145 miles.

...Whether the new fencing slows illegal immigration remains to be seen, but the project is a milestone in another way. Once limited mainly to cities, fencing along the 1,952-mile border is now going up in rural areas, where much of the illegal immigration traffic has shifted in recent years.

Fleets of tractor-trailers loaded with fence posts and steel tubing have been crossing remote highways and deserts. Crews of National Guard troops spend hours welding raw materials under tarps. In some areas, contractors are installing the barriers at a pace of about half a mile per day.

A line of towering steel now slices for about 32 miles through a sea of sand from San Luis to the Tinajas Altas mountains. The fence, built to prevent incursions on the Barry M. Goldwater Range, is now the longest on the border, more than twice as long as the 14-mile fence separating San Diego from Tijuana.

"This is going to be a rude awakening for the crowds [of immigrants] that come in the fall," said Welby Redwine, a Boeing Co. engineer overseeing work in a canyon crisscrossed by smuggling trails in the Tinajas Altas mountains, 40 miles from the nearest town. "When they see it they're going to say, 'Wow, what happened?' "

Hallelujah.

BEFORE:

AFTER:

It still isn't going up fast enough - at this rate it will still take years. The Pentagon was completed in 17 months - this nation can build a double fence in half that time if we wanted to.

As to the critics like the author of this piece who started out by writing:

Whether the new fencing slows illegal immigration remains to be seen,/i>

Oh, believe me. It will have an effect. You have to smoking crack not to believe that it won't.

P.J. O'Rourke was asked "Well, what if they start digging tunnels!"

He said something like: 'Great - that means we stopped the illegals and now they have to dig tunnels. That is progress.'

Expect the Democrats to whine and sob about this fence for the next few months leading into the 2008 elections. Pelosi just returned from Texas where she sobbed to illegals how terrible it is.

The Democrats can't steal elections unless they can stop the fence and photo ID for voting.

Everyone here blamed the President for not building the fence in one day and getting rid of 12 million illegals in a week.

The LA Slimes is asking if this is going to work. That means it will. The illegal immigrant raids are kicking into high gear and the fence is being built.

Maybe now we can move on and blame the President for something else.

While NG troops on the NM/Mexican border are being removed...

Six years have passed since 9/11 and we still have open borders, open ports, TENS OF MILLIONS OF ILLEGALS costing American taxpayers TENS OF BILLIONS OF DOLLARS ANNUALLY and who knows how many muzzie terrorists are in this country preparing to blow us all to hell & back;
Chertoff has the unmitigated nerve to insult our intelligence with a 12 foot fence over 145 miles of a 2000 mile border by saying “When we make a commitment, we will carry through on the commitment?”

And just what “commitment” is that, Chertoff?
That the Bush administration will patronize the sheeple by erecting a few miles of fence while allowing tens of millions of illegals to stay here and who knows how many muzzie terrorists to roam about America unabated?

After 9/11, every foreign muzzie & illegal alien should have been deported, BOTH borders & ALL ports secured.
Our ancestors didn’t emigrate to this country just so a bunch of camel jockeys could come here, terrorize our women and children and make hamburger out of our families.
One more islamic terrorist attack in America and every muzzie swinging dick will have to pack up his koran & family and go back to whatever hellhole they originated from. And anyone who doesn’t like it can have a good cry!

11/2008 won’t come soon enough for me...
I only hope & pray to God that conservative candidates from all over America will come forward to run for public office against this bunch of ‘RINO’s & ‘Rats in Congress & the WH. Just so we patriotic Americans can take back our good country before it goes completely to hell!

There! I’ve said my piece.

Have a grand weekend, all. :-]

Semper Fi,
Kelly

Barriers are walls that may be defeatable with wire cutters. But it’s a start.

We need to fortify and secure the entire border. A country that can't control its borders has no future.

Thanks. Grrrr...

Note to Congress and the WH: If barriers are good enough for the American public, how about we string 'em around you all? After all, what's good enough for the taxpayers oughta be good enough for our pols...

Probably not, they aren’t interested in the good news, I’ve reported it for months, I’ve seen it with my own eyes and I’m impressed with what a good fence it is.

The one cement supplier that I know (they are using 3 companies) is sending $40K worth of cement a day.

Ummm...hate to tell you this, but that machine gun has a blank firing adaptor (BFA) attached to the barrel.

I know, it looks like some sort of weird minigun to me also. But is really isn’t.

On the.50 cal, BFAs are massive because there must be enough powder in the cartridge case to cycle the heavy bolt and feed mechanism through blow back action. To create the needed pressure, the blank contains a substantial plug that could be fatal if it struck a person even at some distance from the barrel. To prevent this, a plug shredder is incorporated into the design. However, at .50 caliber, even the lightweight plug impacts the shredder at considerable velocity and the BFA must be well anchored to the machine gun to prevent it from being blown off. Those rods paralleling the barrel are actually long bolts going into a locking ring clamped to the perforated heat shield at the base of the barrel. What appears to be a exit for the bullet in the center of the plug shredder is actually a escape port for the propellant gases driving the plug down the barrel.

If the gunner was lucky, a live round fired in that machine gun (as set up now) would blow the plug shredder off of the barrel and send pieces of the retaining ring and bolts flying in every direction. More likely, the gun would blow up. Either way, troops hurt, equipment damaged or destroyed, accident investigation, charges probable; not good.

(BTW, I have never heard of this happening in a .50 cal. (I'm sure it has, I just haven't seen it first hand and don't recollect reading any reports on it.) But putting a live round in and a BFA on the same barrel at the same time does, unfortunately, happen with some regularity in training with rifles and light machine guns.)

The President was culpable in this he was exactly WRONG as shown by the reaction of his constituents. No one asked that they be deported in a day just start now and deport them as fast as possible. What you really want is that they not be deported at all. Sorry on this one you lose, I hope.

“What you really want is that they not be deported at all.”

Actually what I want is for them to go home and apply legally to come back. Those that don’t leave, deport. Businesses that do not report, fine and close if necessary. Current inmates finish their sentences and are deported with no chance of ever coming back.

And everyone registers, gets printed and pictured.

I don’t know what fairy tale land you live in, Dorothy, but erecting a 12 foot fence over 145 miles of a TWO THOUSAND MILE BORDER in SIX FRIGGIN’ YEARS while allowing TWENTY MILLION ILLEGALS & God only knows how many muzzie terrorists to roam about America unabated is NOT GETTING IT DONE. And FYI, they are already pulling NG troops OFF the Mexican border AS WE SPEAK!

Now pull your head out of the that TX sand and join us in getting some true blue conservatives elected next year and by DEMANDING that borders & ports are secured, every foreign muzzie & illegal alien is deported and by helping us take back our country or take your Bush apologist posts back to Jersey because Bush & the rest of the RINO & ‘Rat representatives in Congress have been a disaster for DECADES and anyone who disagrees is disingenuous, naive, ill-informed and/or just not been paying attention! And the only solution is to throw them ALL out of office and TERM LIMITS!

Good day!

I challenge you to find even one post where one person here did that. Even if there was one idiot who did that, and there wasn't, you're saying that EVERYONE HERE did that.

What are you, nine years old? Does that debate technique work for you in grade school?
