"Band of Brothers" is airing now (Saturday, 12:30PM Central) on
The History Channel.
Interesting that it should air on the weekend following the
airing of the first four parts of Ken Burns'/PBS's "The War".
Opinions about the relative merits of the two WWII-ear shows are welcome.
ee following posts for URLs for the discussion threads for
Parts 1-4 of "The War".
My arm for a World War 2 drama that doesn’t focus on Hitler, the Holocaust, or the 101st Airborne.
Below are some URLs for the discussion threads for Ken Burns’/PBS’s
“The War”, along with a few PBS URLs that might be helpful for those
wishing to see the series.
As best I can tell, Part 4 (of 7?) of “The War” airs tomorrow night
(SUNDAY August 30, 2007) at 7PM Central (check your local PBS listings
for your correct air-time).

"The War" is more about the American Homeland in War Time. People actually felt like they were part of the effort. Not like every war since.
All I know is that I tuned into his series on Baseball and found a multi-part program about Jackie Robinson.
Mahmoud! Is that you? Welcome to FR.

LOL! There was a war in the Pacific too.

Fair comment...I just thought folks might have some thoughts seeing
how The History Channel decided to re-air “Band of Brothers” on
the first weekend following Burns’ “The War”.
A WWII drama without lots of Hitler, Holocaust or the 101st Airborne?
That’s the sort of good old films that we could watch on late-night
TV in the 1960s or 1970s.
Like, “Up From The Beach”

I’ve only seen Band of Brothers. Six Times. It is fantastic. To all who come on this thread and have not seen it... please rent it or get it from the library. You will not be disappointed.
‘Band of Brothers’ is a classic!
Love the interview in the beginning about entering the service...”4 guys in our town were 4f and they committed suicide. It was a different time.”
I remember watching the first run of BAND OF BROTHERS on HBO the week of 9/11/01. By an amazing coincidence, this very patriotic show debuted right in the midst of that week of the attacks. It really added to the emotional wallop.
OOPS...I meant to say...
As best I can tell, Part 5 “FUBAR” (of 7?) of The War airs tomorrow
night (SUNDAY August 30, 2007) at 7PM Central (check your local PBS
listings for your correct air-time).

No, it’s someone who would like to hear about Italy, the Russian front, the 5th Army, Patton, North Africa, or that little war in the Pacific once in a while.
Tired of Bastogne, tired of Market-Garden, tired of D-Day. They’ve been documented to death. Let’s hear about the other 99% of the war.
Do yourself a favor and buy Patton.
I admit that comparing “Band of Brothers” and “The War” is a
“compare the apples with the oranges” exercise.
But seeing how “The War” aired with such fanfare, I just found it
interesting to see “Band of Brothers” getting (yet) another re-airing
on the weekend following the airing of the first 4 segments of “The War”.
Given how there have been plenty of postive, neutral and negative
comments on the discussion threads for “The War” so far, I thought
it might be interesting to get some comments about both the shows.
I read an interview by Dick Winters about the series. He liked them for their realism but chided Spielberg and Hanks about the language. Said there was too much profanity.
This is why a DVR was invented.
