Ok, so last night I'm sitting down with my sister and she has these small cans of soda she obviously got at some place that doesn't serve the normal stuff, lol! It is a soda made with sugar and no High Fructose Corn Syrup.
She than goes on to say that HFCS should be banned by the govt and that it is so harmful and she supports the govt removing it and not letting anyone have it anymore. So I tell her she is a liberal and she starts laughing and says no, but just on this issue. You have to understand while she is saying this there is a can of Dr.Pepper on her table and whole lot more coke's in her fridge that have HFCS in them.
So, I told her she doesn't speak for me and she says that she should and she knows for a fact it is bad for me. I laughed and asked her if she knows that her ideas are unconstitutional and asked her if she cares what it says in the constitution and she said she doesn't give a rats butt about that document and it is basically garbage to her.
Folks, both my grandfather's served in World War II and our favorite grandfather was injured and lost a lot of his hearing while serving in Panama. They fought for our Constitution and our freedom and she basically spit on their graves if you ask me! I was disgusted.
She went on to give me the old liberal talk about how the govt has to do something because we as taxpayers have to pay for these people who are so unhealthy. I explained that one liberal law to fix another doesn't really make sense and that two wrongs don't make a right, but she didn't care. My husband had to calm me down and just give up.
My father who is a Reagan Conservative will totally set her straight once he hears about this, which I'm sure he will today. I'm shocked though and so deeply disappointed in her stupidity!!!!!!!!!
We’ve all got libs in the family (grin)
Every family has at least one...
Well, Hoss, sounds like you’re gonna have to take the old plug behind the barn and shoot her.
LMAO! Either than or knock some sense into her!
Trust me on this much: Corn syrup isn’t worth tension in the family.
However, ask her why Bill Clinton didn’t ban it during his 8 years in office.
The personal trainer needs to augment his studies with a course on nutrition. HFCS is not a very healthy thing to stick in your pie hole.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_fructose_corn_syrup
I have liberals in my family too.
And if only all the differences we argued over was about sugar in soft drinks!
Well, she’s right about the qualities of high fructose corn syrup. The stuff is liquid garbage.
Both your grandfathers drank soda pop made with sugar instead of HFCS. And enjoyed it.
Just wait until she hear about the horrors of di-hydrogen monoxide.
She have a petition printed to ban the stuff within 30 minutes.
Celibrate the fact she only want to ban artificial sweetners.
My liberal BIL would have us out of Iraq tommorow if he had the power!
As her what corn syrup and “real” sugar gets broken down to so her brain can try to work.
I’ve heard that about HFCS, but frankly, Charlotte,.....
Never argue with a “true believer” whatever the subject. No amount of arguing will convince them. It is like arguing an article of faith. A waste to time to even attempt to correct someone who has “seen the light”.
If she doesn’t like HFCS then tell her to put it into her gas tank.
Actually, in the last few years, I’ve heard about several studies done regarding corn syrup. (Don’t ask me to cite sources - my memory is not that good! lol!) Seems the incidence of diabetes has increased greatly since it has been widely used in place of sugar and, I believe, obesity has increased (though I blame that mostly on video games and the computer!)since the early 1970’s. I’ll have to do some looking around but, grudgingly, I believe your sister might be right. As to the rest - you better start setting that girl straight!! Is she still really young? You know the old saying “If you’re not a liberal by the time you’re 20, you have to heart; If you’re not a conservative by the time you’re 40, you have no brains”! LOL!!

Of course, it was also made with cocaine, too. I guess ever’buddy was high in them thar daze.
Wait for the spring when the supermarkets start putting out the Kosher for Passover Coca-Cola. It is made with cane sugar.
My son drinks Dr. Peppers made with cane sugar. He’s not a lib, though. He says they taste better.
Hope your dad gets your sister straightened out.
OOOhhh, Wikipedia! It’s gotta be true or they couldn’t print it, right??
All this, even running to Dad, over a can of soda? (I know it branched off into a different argument, but is it really worth it when she’s your sister?)
BTW, to me the sugar sodas just plain taste better. Though I do not drink regular sodas anymore; Splenda for me now. Ask her about that, you two could have a real good brawl over that one. 8-)
At least your sister doesn’t listen to Air America Radio (my SIL does).
If your worst liberal relative is only out to ban corn sweetener, CONSIDER YOURSELF LUCKY!
If got a sister that believes Bush is a war criminal, 9-11 was an inside job and that guns tobacco, and alcohol should be banned, and pot legalized.
In Houston you can get imported Coke made with sugar.. It is excellent! Reminds me of when I was a kid.. Especially good with rum...
Just smile and nod your head a lot. They also like hand shadows on the wall. Other than that it is useless.
> I am not all that sure which is better for you HFCS or sugar but what I do know is that Dublin Dr. Pepper and Mexican Coke which are made with sugar taste much better than those made with HFCS.
HFCS and sugar are both sweet, but sugar is ever so slightly easier to metabolize. HFCS goes though one extra step in your bloodstream before it is metabolized. You wouldn’t think that would be much of a difference, but that one extra step allows its conversion to a storable lipid (fat) to be just a little easier to achieve.
I wouldn’t mind trying one. However, I’ve kicked the soda habit completely. I’d hate to get started again.
You might try telling her that the liberal elite (including whoever funded the “study” she quotes) come up with causes like this for two reasons: 1) so that they can make money and gain power; and 2) so that they can get credit for sounding noble, kind and caring. That is why libs like big government, with all its self-justifying agencies and bureaus. You might ask her if she’s noticed that whenever liberals act like they “care deeeeeply” about something, they’re actually making a pile off it and gaining political power and influence.
I doubt if it will cause an epiphany, but it might just plant a seed that will one grow into a conservative oak.
Also, nothing more conservative than only putting foods in your system that nature made.
Anyone who advocates the government controlling what foods we can or cannot eat, is definately a liberal with strong communist overtones.
I agree with her about the sugar.
My favorite drink was the old coke. It became coke classic after their “changing the formula” act.
The coke classic has corn syrup replacing the sugar in the formula. I didn’t know that but I detected an after taste and lack of “zap” if you will.
Never drank it since. The coca cola company LIED to the consumers and gave them the classic instead of the real thing, no pun intended.
Changing coke to a “sweeter one” like Pepsi was an act to replace the sugar and improve their bottom line at the expense of our health.
Man, wasn’t it a bitch to quit ? I had been guzzling caffeine beverages since I was a toddler and drank about 2 liters a day, and just went cold turkey after 20 years. I had a headache that lasted for a month. Haven’t had a soft drink in nearly a decade, drink fruit punch instead.
Have her committed. You cant reason with liberals because if you could they would be conservatives.
Know why they us HFCS in sodas?
ADM paid congress to limit sugar.
You drink it, I am allergic to HFCS.
I drink water.
(the corruption in this country is, frankly, disgusting).
>>>OOOhhh, Wikipedia! Its gotta be true or they couldnt print it, right??<<<
Dude, if you’re going to question the source, go out and find evidence to refute it.
There’s more than enough evidence that high fructose corn syrup is liquid garbage. Do some footwork if you don’t like the footwork someone else has done.
Splenda has been proven to kill lab rats (in the correct amounts). Mix your grape Koolaid with Splenda and it’s time for taps. Add a tad of rat poison and taps will be much louder.
I’ve got two sisters. The liberal one lives in Austin. I love her dearly but politically she is way over on the left. She is also one heck of a great guitar/banjo/mandolin player so when we’re together we spend most of our time playing tunes. We joke about the necessity of voting so as to cancel each others vote out. ;o)
Bottled Coca Cola tasted just great in Mexico and it was about the only liquid you could drink that didn’t cause the dreaded turistas. They pasteurized it twice to make sure. They made it with loads of pure sugar. My wifey was hooked on it.
Look for Mexican Coke in glass bottles.
It is made with sugar and just like Coke did before they made the change to HFCS.
In either case (mutant liver, believes propaganda) she meets the criteria for being a Liberal.
I'd talk to her quite seriously about telling the world about her mutant liver though ~ could hurt your credit rating.
>>>Anyone who advocates the government controlling what foods we can or cannot eat, is definately a liberal with strong communist overtones.<<<
Oh, so if I want to put lead or asbestos in my food containers that I sell, the government shouldn’t be able to regulate that?
I don’t agree with you.
