Thousands of protesters are dead and the bodies of hundreds of executed monks have been dumped in the jungle, a former intelligence officer for Burma's ruling junta has revealed.
The most senior official to defect so far, Hla Win, said: "Many more people have been killed in recent days than you've heard about. The bodies can be counted in several thousand."
Mr Win, who spoke out as a Swedish diplomat predicted that the revolt has failed, said he fled when he was ordered to take part in a massacre of holy men. He has now reached the border with Thailand. (more)

Communism again. I’m sure these murders were for the benefit of the people, like the commies everywhere love to say. I am sick.
“With protests quashed and many monasteries empty, fears are growing for those who have disappeared into Burma’s grim prisons in recent days - rights groups say more than 1,000 people, including monks and students, are missing.”

Prayers going up for Myanmar’s freedom martyrs.
Don’t worry! The UN is on the way!!
Burma is a prime example of why the UN is irrelevant. No regime that is held into place by force should have a voice in an international institution of any kind, much less one that putatively exists to promote peace.
Furthermore, more action than just ‘stern words’ should be taken in response to this barbarism.
Short of invasion, there should be a strict economic blockade and safe haven provided on the borders to anyone who wants to leave. I would even go so far as to advocate targeted harassment attacks on their military facilities and assets.
“Thousands of monks detained in Burma’s main city of Rangoon will be sent to prisons in the far north of the country, sources have told the BBC.
About 4,000 monks have been rounded up in the past week as the military government has tried to stamp out pro-democracy protests.”

Thailand Daily has some good coverage, including Thailand NOT allowing refuges into their country.
Anybody want to guess what the laws governing gun ownership in Burma are?
It’s no coincidence that this comes right after the Chinese had a heart-to-heart talk with their Burmese puppets.
Quite a different outcome from the Ferdinand Marcos demonstrations of the 1980’s Phillipines.
Boycott Burma!
(If you weren't already)
“..the UN is irrelevant. No regime that is held into place by force should have a voice in an international institution of any kind..”
The entire UN is a useless and contemptible organization whose headquarters just clutters up the NY skyline. How is it possible that the country that contributes most to its survival, is only allowed one vote?
I kinda thought the Burmese military were kleptocrats, rather than having any discernable politics. Do you have a link to their communist pedigree? Would like to know.
They are lapdogs of the Chinese Communists.
Thousands dead in the massacre of the monks
All Burma threads here...
Thanks ~Pandy~
Yes, but so are the Sudanese to a certain extent. China makes deals with any foreign devil with natural resources.
Do you know the politics of the local rulers? My last hearing was “kleptocrat.”
Sick.....this is what should be reported night after night on MSM instead of the current “gossip”. It is sickening.
You are correct, I am wrong. That said, these types of governments both have the same policy of murdering in the name of the people. Sad and sick.
“Sick.....this is what should be reported night after night on MSM instead of the current gossip. It is sickening.”
Agree. Smearing Rush Limbaugh is more important right now. /s
And the U.N.,Useless Nations does what?
And the U.N.,Useless Nations does what?
Pardon the double post please.
Drafts a letter expressing "deep concern."
About Israel.
Time for Thumb screws on India, China and Russia, they have the economic machete’s by which Burma’s Junta will bow down to. India isn’t saying a damn thing, and neither is Russia because they want Burma’s oil and natural gas. China issued a tap on the wrist statement. These are the ONLY countries that have any sway with Burma’s Military Junta. The US MUST demand action from India, China and Russia if ANYTHING even REMOTELY positive is going to happen in Burma.
Pray...
Come to think of it, lets boycott EVERYTHING Chinese, including Target and walmart, until China pulls its head out of its greedy CAPITALISTIC arse and put it to Burma: Free the Monks and institute democracy or we will take our oil purchases to (insert country here). We, being the US, should also boycott India until THEY tell Burma the same thing and threaten to buy Oil elsewhere as well.
The Burmese people never see a dime of the money made from Oil gems or any other resource that Burma has, it all goes to the Military, Threaten that money flow and they won’t be able to keep the soldiers paid, they don’t get paid they leave and join the revolt. Follow me? China, India and Russia MUST be brought to heel.
Does the Government of Burma allow Islamofacists to operate on their soil or not?..
Not....
We are in a War with Islamofacisism not Burma..
The US State Department has been bashing the Military Ruled Government there forever and foistering revolution..
Why? Because they will not play ball with the World Bank?
We have Hugo Chavez in our own back yard and don’t do diddly to him.. We are halfa##ed fighting all over the world and still the State Department finds time to create trouble for a country that is not causing us trouble and if it were not for economic sanctions would be prospering..
We want them to have a Democracy?
Oh like Libia, Syria, or our “Gallant Ally” Saudi Arabia?
What nonsense.
W
The same laws Diane Feinstein, Charles Schumer, Ted Kennedy and the rest of demofascits want for our Country?
And that will be the first place the chinese can test their expansionism.
I explored the UN here:
http://www.intellectualconservative.com/article2257.html
Allowing dictatorships to have a voice was the poison pill that doomed the UN to irrelevance from the very start.
The name is Burma. The US does not recognize that other wierd name imposed by the murdering military thugs. We need to move past this political correctness.
I will keep posting this thought until that other name is never seen again on this website.
Burma lives.
Yes and No. You are right about our priorities being mixed up, BUT Thailand does have a serious Islamofascist problem, and if they have to spend resources on refuges instead of security forces, they are in big trouble.
where are the american leftists?
That “Burma Shave” sign thing is not all that hilarious.
Maybe if it was not only red, but dripping red, and said
“No food, no water, constant beatings until death-— Burma Slaughter.
Nah, still not amusing.
Gee, I guess I'll be up all night worrying about it.
Roger that!
