CBS producer accused of soliticing sex with 11-year old

A CBS producer was arrested Saturday after deputies say he attempted to arrange sex with 11-year-old girl by communicating with undercover investigators posing as the fictitious girl's father, authorities said.

Daniel J. Barron, 56, a 15-year producer with CBS News who lives in New Jersey, allegedly told an undercover St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office detective to bring his 11-year-old daughter to the Fort Lauderdale hotel where he was staying while in town to cover Sunday's Miami Dolphins game, according to an arrest report.

Barron allegedly told the undercover detective, whom he met Saturday afternoon in an America Online chat room called "open minded parents," that he wanted to videotape himself having sex with the girl after he got off work at 8 p.m. Saturday night, the report said.

"I will be very gentle with her," Barron wrote, according to investigators.

After arresting him in an Office Depot parking lot around 9:30 p.m., Barron admitted that he had used a laptop computer in a production truck at Dolphins stadium to communicate with undercover investigators, an arrest affidavit said.

Barron faces a charge of solicitation to commit sexual battery on a child under 12, the affidavit said.

According to the arrest affidavit, a Broward Sheriff's Office detective was portraying himself as an adult male with an 11-year-old daughter in an America Online chat room called "open-minded parents" when he received an instant message from Barron's screen name of "DBarsTone" at about 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

The affidavit alleges that Barron said hello and wrote, "So do you and the kids all enjoy some adventure?" When the detective identified himself as an adult with an 11-year-old daughter, Barron allegedly responded, "Very, very cool. Not a cop."

According to the affidavit, Barron asked if the undercover detective and his fictitious daughter would visit him. When the detective said he wasn't interested in fantasy chat, Barron allegedly responded, "I am very serious. You and the dau come down here."

During the course of the alleged conversation, Barron indicated that he wanted the fictitious daughter to provide oral sex and have sex with him while the detective videotaped it. Barron also suggested that the detective and his fictitious daughter meet him in Fort Lauderdale, according to the affidavit.
