Phony Soldiers and Phony Senators
by John E. O'Neill
10/04/2007
Recently, at least 41 Democratic Senators, joined by a howling mob including George Soros Media Matters, sought to silence Rush Limbaugh because of his reference to phony anti war soldiers. Limbaughs comments, taken in context, referred to Jesse Macbeth, a confessed and convicted phony, whose faked but graphic war crimes confessions received far wider media notice than his later confession. He had been discharged in boot camp after 40 days of service.
Macbeth follows a grand tradition of fake soldiers whose war crimes confessions have been used by the Left to slander the service of our troops. For example, Micah Ian Wright, author of the 2003 anti war best seller "You Back the Attack," was an Army Ranger and Combat veteran feted at USCs Annenberg School and in media like the Washington Post until he was finally outed as a complete fake. Many similar examples of phony soldiers used by the Left for war crimes confessions are documented in B.G. Burketts bestseller Stolen Valor. Indeed, the problem was so endemic that a Republican Congress in 2005, at the urging of many veterans, passed The Stolen Valor Act finally criminalizing activities such as those of Macbeth.
There is no one more injured by phony war crimes charges lodged by phony veterans than veterans themselves whose service is dishonored by the slander. I know. In 1971, in addition to listening to John Kerry from our unit falsely compare our forces in Viet Nam to the Army of Jhengiz Khan, I heard Al Hubbard, the president of Kerrys VVAW, appearing with Kerry in forums such as Meet the Press and Congress confess to war crimes such as bombing innocent villages. Hubbard was an Air Force pilot, who appeared on national television wearing the Distinguished Flying Cross and many other medals while confessing our guilt in Viet Nam. Except he was none of these things, having left the Air Force as a Sergeant, never serving in Viet Nam at all.
Military personnel all over the world thank God for Rush Limbaughs stout defense of our military from these fakes. In 1971, there was no one to defend us from the John Kerrys and the Al Hubbards. Indeed, it is the U.S. Senate that is a Potemkin Village. It is a body whose failure to condemn Hubbards and Kerrys 1971 libels is deafening. It is also a place on whose floor active duty soldiers have been compared to the assassins of the Khmer Rouge (Senator Deck Durbin); people who terrorize women and children (Senator Kerry); and (in close proximity) cold blooded murderers (Rep. John Murtha). Hypocrisy and cowardice are terms too kind for those who demean our soldiers without regard to the consequences to them. This conduct when coupled with the effort to silence Limbaugh a stout defender of the troops, can be best described with two words: What phonies.

Contents of the EMail I sent to VoteVet.org this morning,
entitled Heard your Ad - Phoney Patriots
I heard your new ad with Brian McGough(?) challenging Rush Limbaugh to
“say it to his face”. I am here to say something, and would love to
have the opportunity to do it in person.
Your add is perpetuating a lie, and you know it. Rush Limbaugh was
speaking of a select few individuals that have tried to pass
themselves off as bonified veterans and have been embraced by the
anti-war crowd. These individuals have then been exposed for the
frauds they are. In fact Jesse McBeth, the phoney soldier that Mr.
Limbaugh was discussing during the broadcast in question, is spending
time in jail for the fraud he committed.
You and your group have earned the right to be against the war. What
you do not have the right to do is to lie to the American people, in
order to further your political agenda. In fact, if you were truly
honest, you would vet the ties your group has with other liberal
groups and who finances your Park Ave. main office.
We both know that you and your group won’t do that on your own,
because it would expose you for what you truly are raging liberals and
liars, to boot.
You, eric@votevets.org, Brian McGough and everyone else at
votevets.,org are nothing more than Phoney Patriots.

The RATS are too stupid to stop digging their own grave. By pandering to their fringe base and the leftist media with this Rush-bash, they are pissing off the majority who don’t care either way, but want congress to do something substantive insterd of partisan bickering.
Thanks Mr. O’ Neil! You are right again! Your answer re the attack on Rush is the best yet. Carry on!
John O’Neil is a great American.
This needs to be repeated again and again
bump Speaking truth to liars.

I don’t recall Kerry apologizing for participating in this travesty.

Thanks for the Ping Interesting Times. Good to see John O'Neill speaking out about this.
Smoothsailing, thanks for posting this.
Promoting phony soldiers and phony atrocities propelled Kerry to the senate.
They must be standing on their ear that it isn’t working this time.
Nixon should have prosecuted..
Bump that, Marine.
Heard Rush mention today that the phony soldier Jesse Macbeth’s real name was Jesse Adam Al-Zaid. Imagine that!
Outstanding!
Well said about their complete hypocrisy.
Pray for W and Our Troops
“Phony war heroes are nothing new. They sprout after every war, claiming heroism they never displayed and wearing medals they never earned.” B.G. Burkett, Stolen Valor, 1998.
“As its dominant tactic in their battle against the war, the antiwar movement successfully demonized Vietnam veterans by calling a series of “tribunals” or hearings into war crimes. But... they were packed with pretenders and liars.” B.G. Burkett, in Stolen Valor. 1998.
“First Blood became a touchstone for pretenders, a pattern to follow consciously and unconsciously. Released one year after the completion of the national Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the movie marked a change in our nation’s perception of Vietnam veterans.
“During the decade after the war, few real Vietnam veterans wanted to identify themselves as such. The divisiveness, the anger, the confusion made it safer, wiser to file that part of ourselves away. As a Vietnam veteran, society rejected me. But as long as I did not identify myself as a Vietnam veteran, I was accepted. So I assumed my other identities: Vanderbilt graduate, golfer, stockbroker, husband, father.
“But Rambo made it okay, even heroic, to be a Vietnam vet. Politicians began to claim Vietnam service while campaigning for office. Sen. John Kerry, who had made a dramatic public splash with his antiwar stand, now wrapped himself in his Vietnam veteran status.” B.G. Burkett, Stolen Valor, 1998.
“’Everybody’ knew most soldiers who fought in Vietnam were reluctant draftees, poor minorities, or dumb cannon fodder not smart enough to avoid military service. When I told them that I - a financial adviser with undergraduate and graduate degrees from major universities - had voluntarily served in Vietnam, they looked at me in disbelief.” B.G. Burkett, Stolen Valor, 1998.
“In 10 years of research in the National Archives, in filing hundreds of requests for military documents under the federal Freedom of Information Act, I discovered a massive distortion of history, a poisonous myth created by . . . an entertainment industry so enamored of sensationalism that it had no qualms about presenting a false stereotype to generate profits . . . by a Department of Veterans Affairs as concerned with its own power base as America’s war-wounded . . . by a legal system manipulated by unscrupulous attorneys motivated not by justice but a need to win at all costs. . . by social welfare advocates and mental health professionals willing to support a lie to further their own agendas. . .and by print and television journalists unwilling to examine their own politics and preconceptions.” B.G. Burkett, Stolen Valor, 1998.
“For agreeing to serve their country in Vietnam, an entire generation of veterans had been tainted with the labels of victim, loser, and moral degenerate. The men who had served in the military only 20 years earlier during World War II had received honor and respect for their efforts. Why had Vietnam been so different?” B.G. Burkett, Stolen Valor, 1998.

Lately, with the liberals gone wild: 12% approval of congress; the Limbaugh misquote hoopla; NY Gov. Spitzer giving drivers license to illegals; etc.
Conspicuously absent is Hillary.
Remember the talk of redeployment, up, down, over.
In the macro sense, the Democrats are loudly redeploying left of a quiet Hillary. THIS POSITIONS HILLARY AS A MODERATE. Some of these Democrats are just simple lemmings. Some like NY Gov. Spitzer, Im sure, will have negotiated a future reward.
These useful idiots will appease the base, Hillary will step on their backs for the presidency -such will serve the greater good.
There are real costs for democrats, but not for their star. For her it distracts critics. So they’ll continue to throw out raw meat.

Best graphic yet!
John F’n Kerry “wrote the handbook” on use of phony vets to advance a radical political agenda. The fact that Harkin jumped on the bandwagon speaks volumes. Next thing you know there will be a phony medal-tossing ceremony on the mall, permit provided courtesy of The Swimmer.
