An Alaska Airlines plane has been isolated at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and passengers unloaded because an "unclaimed package" was found as the aircraft was flying from San Jose this morning.
The pilot of Flight 383 informed the airport control tower that he had something on his plane that was of concern to him, said airport spokeswoman Terri-Ann Betancourt.
She said it was something that "looked like a cellphone" but was not sure what the object was.
The airlines described it as an "unclaimed package" discovered while the Boeing 737-400 was en route.
There were 104 passengers and five crew members onboard the aircraft, which landed in Seattle shortly after 11:41 a.m., said Alaska Airline spokesman Paul McElroy.
Betancourt said the plane was held off the runway and all passengers were unloaded and bused to the gates, where they will stay until police go through the plane.
She said protocol for finding unclaimed items on a plane is up to the pilot.

I can’t tell you how often I’ve heard people tell the flight attendant that they forgot their ipod, cellphone, camera, etc. on the previous flight.

I can understand the confusion about a "cell phone" lookalike. Does this look like a cellphone? Kinda... but then again... who knows what lurks?
