As Obama Talks Religion, Questions Surround His Controversial Pastor
FOX NEWS ^ | October 08, 2007 | Cristina Corbin

Barack Obama has put his religion back into the headlines, trumpeting the power and salvation of faith and asking a church audience in South Carolina to help him become “an instrument of God” and join him in creating “a Kingdom right here on Earth."

But the Democratic contender's talk on Sunday of breaking down religious and political differences has some critics questioning the Illinois senator's own beliefs — and those of the man identified as his spiritual adviser — and whether his messages of spiritual inclusion and tolerance have remained consistent.

Obama has written and spoken about being inspired by the preaching of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr., and his calls to “spur social change.” The title of Obama’s second book, “The Audacity of Hope,” which essentially launched his presidential bid, was taken from a sermon by Wright.

Baptized in Wright’s Trinity United Church of Christ, Obama has been an active member for two decades, regularly attending services with his family under Wright's spiritual mentorship.

Some of Wright’s sermons, which often address themes of white supremacy and black repression, have come under scrutiny by those who interpret them as racially divisive. Such preaching, they believe, polarizes Americans rather than unites them.

“Wright’s preaching does promote a sort of racial exclusivity,” said Michael Cromartie, vice president of the Ethics and Public Policy Center in Washington.

“Statements that suggest you cannot truly understand God unless you are black or poor are exclusive.”

“help him become “an instrument of God”

That would make him the Mahdi.

Holy mother, can you imagine what the media and all the leftys would be screaming if any conservative or inde for that matter, any Catholic said, “”join him in creating “a Kingdom right here on Earth.””

The airwaves would be melting down over screaming faces yelling and ranting about death squads and concentration camps. The word, “Nazi,” would be shunted about and all the world would stand by horrified.

But no....

No double standard there, no siree.

And the media thinks anyone trusts them?

(I like my propaganda served in the afternoon. My stomach’s empty at that time. Less messy.)

Wow. If he had an (R) behind his name instead of (D) he would already be pilloried by the MSM.

"join him in creating “a Kingdom right here on Earth""

Trinity United Church of Christ has been discussed on Hannity and Combs. Talking points include:

-- It's seemingly black separatist agenda
-- It's seemingly anti-white and anti-semitic

I know I've posted this 3 or 4 times in the past ... but when I look at this church's 'about us' page ... it is just wrong (substitute 'white' for 'black' and 'europe' for 'africa' ... and its obviously wrong. Its a racist 'club' - not the Body of Christ).

Obama's church

“Can you imagine if a Republican started talking like this?”

Yep. It would be leading the news everywhere.

This will be barely mentioned.

creating “a Kingdom right here on Earth.

Once, having been asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, "The kingdom of God does not come with your careful observation, nor will people say, 'Here it is,' or 'There it is,' because the kingdom of God is within you.

Then he said to his disciples, "The time is coming when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, but you will not see it. Men will tell you 'There he is! or Here he is!' Do not go running off after them.

Obama supports murder, despite what the Bible says about it. Obama supports racial preference dispite what the Bible says about it. Obama is a mostly smooth talking tool of the devil. Of that I am certain. There isn’t a person in the world who could convince me otherwise.

ah, now that WOULD violate the separation of church and state. Even the Mayflower Pilgrims wouldn't stand for that. They studiously separated spiritual and civic activities.

I find his phrase "“a Kingdom right here on Earth." a bit, ah, extremist - like in muzzie extremist?

One can wonder how much he was influenced being raised in the midst of muslim parents/step parents. Certainly reasonable to think some of his thought processes would reflect his upbringing, like it does the rest of us.

So, I, a white guy, would or would not be welcome?

Many moons ago when Obama first got into this I went to his church's "Mission Statement" and thought then--

If this were a white church saying these things, they would be pilloried....BUT---it's a black church where politics/racism are allowed without their exemption being pulled by the IRS....

join him in creating “a Kingdom right here on Earth."

Somebody should remind this nitwit that we once had a Kingdom here. But we didn't like it. So we had a revolution and threw the King and his troops out.

And then we wrote and ratified a Constitution for the expressed purpose of ensuring that our land would never be a Kingdom again.

Do these people even listen to themselves?

Even Jesus didn't try to create a "Kingdom right here on Earth."

Just what we need: a President with a Messiah complex trying to outdo Jesus.

yes..the hypocrisy is blatant but it has become so rampant that it's just a way of life now for these characters.

I expect it.

You said it better than I was thinking it. All I could think is, “The arrogance is astounding.”

Certainly we wouldn't allow someone near a nuke that has a stated purpose of invading our allies....would we?
